Orange Kid is a supporting character in the EarthBound/Mother 2 video game. He is one of the two inventors living in Twoson alongside his archrival, Apple Kid.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- While proclaiming himself to be an ultimate genius (even claiming to have problems with Einstein's theories), he is nothing more than a stuck-up coward who has no real talent and has inventions that either do not work or are completely useless.
- He is narratively portrayed as a spoiled brat who gets undeserved attention from all of the ladies and townfolks, which he thinks comes from him being charismatic or "groovy."
- On the other hand, his rival, Apple Kid is actually a hard-working and kind-hearted inventor who helps save the world, yet still gets repeatedly bullied due to his appearance, which the narrative portrays as unfair, especially when Orange Kid acts like a jerk to him and treats him as inferior.
- He will try to trick Ness (and by extension the player playing the game) into wasting lots of money on useless inventions of his like his Orange Machine, which he claims will be helpful but immediately breaks upon usage, which purposefully is intended to frustrate the player.
