Every morning you aren't here... This happens...
~ Oscar revealing to Gloria his true sadistic plan with his Colossal form.

Oscar is the main antagonist of the 2017 comedy-drama movie Colossal.

He owns a bar and is Gloria's childhood friend; he is obsessed with winning her over. He can also control a massive robot avatar, akin to Gloria's gigantic monster avatar.

He was portrayed by Jason Sudeikis.

What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]

In General[]

  • Although he presents himself as nice, social, charitable, and confident, he has always been a very envious, vindicative, irascible and contemptuous person, he only cares about himself. He frequently abuses his friends and displays faux regret when confronted about it.
  • Even though he is an insecure person seeking recognition and admiration, this does not excuse his violent and petty behavior. Furthermore, his relationship with the people he appears to value, such as his parents, is not addressed in depth.

Colossal[]

  • When they were both kids, he crushed and wrecked Gloria's school model because he felt jealous.
    • As an adult, Oscar never subverts his envy by mentioning how Gloria usually won the school's short story contests.
  • He hires Gloria at his bar on the false pretense of being a supportive friend in order to exert control over her.
  • He willfully ignores his friend Garth, who was telling him and Gloria a story, telling Garth that nobody cares about it.
  • He doesn't care about Gloria's regret after accidentally killing some people in her gigantic monster avatar. He downplays the situation and even makes jokes about it with others, defying Gloria's request that he keep the matter between them.
  • When Oscar discovers that he can also control an avatar in the form of a giant robot, he causes chaos in a South Korean commercial district, stomping and dancing despite the presence of humans nearby.
    • When questioned by Gloria, Oscar provokes her by mocking how she mistakenly killed many people to avoid criticism, and he refuses to quit acting foolishly until Gloria slaps him.
  • Later, he demands Gloria remain late and assigns her additional work in retaliation for questioning him, all while mocking the video in which Gloria's monster slaps Oscar's robot, demonstrating no remorse for acting like a dimwit.
    • He intimidates and confronts Garth when he offers to assist Gloria, mocks Garth for his drug problems, and orders Gloria to consume alcohol. When Garth becomes upset and departs, he threatens him and displays no remorse. When Gloria confronts him, he rudely throws the bar keys at her before leaving her to resume control of his robotic form.
  • He insists Gloria continue facing him with her avatar in order to gain more fame.
  • When she tells him she is quitting her job, he physically pushes her and threatens to use his robot to destroy South Korea unless she continues to work with him.
  • He mocks and intimidates Gloria's ex, Tim, by making threats and blowing off a massive firecracker in his bar, scaring the customers who were present.
  • He enters Gloria's residence and tells her that he will remain there to ensure that Tim does not pay her a visit, all without her permission. When Gloria criticizes him and says she will go with Tim, Oscar becomes enraged and fights with her. Then Oscar goes to control his giant robot avatar again, attacking Gloria for attempting to stop him.
    • He then smashes and kills hundreds of South Koreans with his giant robot avatar, threatening Gloria that if she leaves him, he will continue to do it every day.
  • Suspecting Gloria has finally left, he uses his giant robot avatar to start another rampage in Seoul, nearly smashing a kid if it weren't for Gloria's intervention.
    • When he is defeated, he cries and cowardly begs for mercy only for her to throw him away, apparently giving him a well-deserved death.
