The Palmtree Panic Zone Badniks are minor antagonists that appear throughout the 1993 British comic series Sonic the Comic, mainly appearing as the main antagonists of "The Seven Badniks" storyline from issues 59-62, as well as minor supporting antagonists in some other issues.
They are a group of more powerful Badniks primarily located in the Palmtree Panic Zone. At one point, Dr. Robotnik ordered B.A.R.F. to bring these Badniks to Green Hill Zone to increase their chances of defeating Sonic, only for the plan to backfire once said Badniks started to commit genocide on the local Badniks of the zone.
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
- They massacred nearly all of the Badniks native to Green Hill Zone due to them being "outdated" and not wanting to share the same zone as them.
- Unlike other characters in the series, their destruction of other Badniks is not treated as a positive thing but rather a negative action that was unnecessarily cruel (as the Green Hill Zone Badniks did nothing wrong to the Palmtree Panic Zone ones). Additionally, unlike other characters who destroy Badniks, the Palmtree Panic Zone Badniks only destroyed other Badniks out of pure sadism rather than heroism.
- While it's common for Badniks to act cruel, these ones take it up to eleven, to the point where not only their victims, but even Cam and Bert, who are known to frequently mistreat Badniks, call them out on their cruelty.
- They are incredibly selfish, as at first they refused to leave their home zone and only did so after they were threatened by B.A.R.F., only to do the exact same thing in Green Hill Zone until being forced to leave by the Seven Badniks (showcasing that they only care about having a zone for themselves).
- They are complete cowards, as at first they thought that they were the best Badniks in the world and showed no mercy or remorse at all for any of their awful atrocities. However, when the Seven Badniks attacked them in an attempt to bring them back to their home zone, they immediately began acting like they were innocent victims by pleading for mercy and acting like they did nothing wrong.
- They are completely arrogant and egotistical, as they thought of themselves as the best Badniks created by Dr. Robotnik and massacred the Green Hill Zone Badniks because they were "outdated" before then sadistically celebrating their victory.
- While the Palmtree Panic Zone Badniks did get abused by the Seven Badniks and later destroyed by Sonic, it is not played for sympathy whatsoever. If anything, they completely deserved being destroyed considering the horrid actions they committed.
- Unlike most other Badniks in Sonic the Comic, they have no redeeming or "evil-is-cool" moments, as they are nothing more then egotistical, cowardly, and sadistic robots that only care about themselves.
Trivia[]
- Only the Sonic the Comic incarnations of the Palmtree Panic Badniks count as Hate Sinks, as both their canon and Archie counterparts are not overly sadistic towards other Badniks and their villainy is around the exact same as most of their fellow Badniks.
- Additionally, their canon counterparts genuinely care about Dr. Eggman, as it is confirmed in the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special comic that they alongside other Badniks celebrate Eggman's birthday every year.
