Dr. Anthony Ivo, also known as Parasite, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Slade Wilson) of Season 1 and a minor antagonist in Season 2 of the 2023 superhero cartoon series My Adventures with Superman.
He is a charismatic, yet corrupt and unstable scientist and the founder and CEO of AmazoTech. After beginning to lose favor in his company, he would attempt to regain control by selling his Parasite 1.0 armor, plotting to demonstrate its power by killing Superman. Following his defeat, he would be captured and recruited by Task Force X, using his scientific knowledge to aid them in their plans to eliminate Superman before eventually betraying them to pursue his own vendetta against the Man of Steel.
He is voiced by Jake Green, who also voiced Norman Stan in Moville Mysteries.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He abused his power as CEO of AmazoTech, gaining power through criminal activity and evicting a whole neighborhood just to build the AmazoTech building. It's also heavily implied that he killed all of his business competitors in a fire.
- It's implied that he abused his power and wealth to cover up his wrongdoings.
- When Superman questioned him about his illegal actions, he tried to distract him with Metropolis' bachelorettes.
- He made fun of Lois for being unsophisticated, showing that he's not just a villain, but a jerkish and rude person in general.
- He tried to kill Superman just to demonstrate the power of his Parasite Armor. This inevitably lead to his arrest, which lead to his company being shut down and all of his employees being jobless, later causing Lex Luthor, his former assistant, becoming a villain.
- It's implied he constantly belittled and underappreciated his assistant, Lex Luthor, which likely also played a part in his rise to villainy.
- He believes that Superman ruined his life on purpose and asks him what his angle is. Even when Superman tries to tell him that some people do good for the sake of being good, Ivo simply scoffs at the idea, he also fails to understand altruism.
- While he did join Task Force X, unlike the other members, who were either forced into joining or genuinely believe Superman is a threat to humanity, Anthony primarily stays on the team just to get revenge on Superman, and he has no care towards his teammates or the mission..
- His obsession with Superman got to the point where he endangered the entire city by siphoning power from it and transforming his armor into a kaiju all so he could kill Superman, showing he was willing to kill millions just out of revenge.
- Like many other villains in the series, he's shown to be xenophobic to nonhuman species, as he insults Superman for not being human.
- He blames Superman for losing his company despite the fact that everything that happened with AmazoTech was Anthony's own doing, since he tried to kill Superman and forced his hand. Even Superman himself points this out, telling him to shut up and saying that he became a monster by choice as he was aware that Ivo was trying to break him by talking.
- Because of his suit, he became a feral beast and furiously yelled at Waller for not giving Superman to him. This doesn't even come off as sympathetic due to the horrible things he did.
- After breaking out of prison, he tried to attack Amanda Waller for no particular reason, even if she arguably deserved it.
- While most villains in the series are sympathetic, or at least had well-meaning intentions, Parasite is completely irredeemable.
- Overall, he's an extremely petty man with a god-complex who's unwilling to accept his faults, abuses his power, blames other people for his self-destruction, and is willing to jeopardize countless lives all for a grudge which he started in the first place.
