Paul is the secondary antagonist of a Pokémon fanfic, Pokémon Shattered Dimensions.
He is a egotistical and abusive Pokémon trainer who wants to become the champion in the Sinnoh league and constantly abuses his Pokémon to become stronger and antagonizes Lucas and his friends during their journey.
He is Lucas' archenemy.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He shows no respect for anyone but himself, seeing him a true concept of a Pokemon trainer.
- During his first meeting with Lucas, he released the Starlys he caught and berates him.
- When battling Lucas, he scolds him for his lack of Pokémon skills and attacks his Turtwig, showing no respect for Pokemon either, not even his own. Afterwards, he would release the last Starly he had caught because it lacked skills that he wanted it to have.
- He shows no care for his own Pokemon as he gives away his Azumarill to a kid for failing to beat Roark's Geodude.
- He constantly abuses his Chimchar and outright tortures it.
- While he does catches Ursaring that was attacking Dawn and Lucas, he only caught it for its power and not to save them, even he admits it. If he didn't caught Ursaring, he would've let both of them possibly injured or even killed.
- During a tag battle, Paul doesn't team up with Lucas and constantly berates him for not stay away from him, he doesn't even help his own Pokémon as he orders Chimchar to use it's flame wheel at Turtwig, brutally injured and yet doesn't care when Chimchar is about to die from a Zangoose.
- Although they won, he still releases Chimchar for being too weak, leading to Chimchar to gain a form of PTSD.
- He catches a Gliscor who was the leader of Gilgars, knowing they would become confused and start attacking it. Despite this,Paul doesn't care and tries to leave. However, Lucas stops him and releases the Gliscor from Paul's pokeball, while Paul stomps on Lucas' back, calling him "pathetic".
- While training, He throws Lucas' Gligar back at him, and continues to berate him for competing in the Wallace Cup. However, Lucas calls him out for not doing anything in the tag battle tournament.
- During their second battle, he outright attempts to murder Lucas' Chimchar out of pure sadism, brutally attacking them with his Ursaring. This shows how petty Paul is.
- When Chimchar has a breakdown that cause it to use its flames to defeats Paul's Ursaring, it eventually tries to attack everyone out of control. While Lucas calms them down and calls Paul out for all the torture he caused on Chimchar, he outright admits rudely that he doesn't care and continues to torment them until Dawn snaps out and tackles Paul down to the ground. However, he decides to brush it off and walks away.
- During All-Star Poke Ringer, he allowed his Honchkrow to beat up Lucas' Starvia, not bothering about the competition and the rules, which allowed Starvia to evolve into Staraptor and gives Honchkrow its comeuppance, leading to Lucas to win the competition. Paul would then berate Lucas and refuses to accept his failure, which leads to him starting another battle. This shows thst Paul is a ungrateful, sore loser.
- Not only that Paul allowed his Ursaring to attack Lucas' Pokémon for no reason other than spite, but he outright allows it to brutally destroy all of Lucas' Pokémon, not allowing any of them to attack or heal up, which lead to all of Lucas' Pokemon to be sent to the Pokémon center for two weeks because of how bad their injuries were.
- Paul still continues to berate Lucas about having weak Pokémon and that Lucas should quit and go back to his hometown, which lead to them fighting each other. Due to Lucas' rage, Paul became more hateable by going as far as to mock Lucas' father. Thankfully, Lucas stopped Paul and gives him a piece of his own medicine and also by saying that Paul's own brother has even admitted that Paul is cruel. However, much to Lucas' dismay, Paul doesn't care and just walks away.
- Paul doesn't even care when Team Galactic attempts to take over the world, as Paul then say that becoming the Champion is more important than saving the world. Even when Paul gets called out, he doesn't care and simply just brushes it off like it was nothing.
- He threatened to throw away his own Pokémon. Whenever they fail to be successful, he would be disappointed for ever catching them in the first time, which leads some of his Pokémon getting tired of him and ignoring his commands
- Although he may have a Freudian Excuse, wanting to avenge his brother after he lost the Battle Pyramid, hence is why he acts like this. However, as Lucas and Paul's own brother would call Paul out by telling him that Paul's "excuse" was far too petty and pathetic as it was not a justifyable reason for him to be a abusive jerk towards everyone, with Brandon also telling Paul that wanting power to get revenge doesn't justify any of the bad things that Paul has done.
- Even his Partner, Electivire grew tired of him, although he served his sadistic right-hand to punish Chimchar, however it eventually learns how much the latter suffered, feeling remorse and preventing his master to outright force him to kill him, showing how much a despicable person Paul is.
- He doesn't care if Dawn gets kidnapped by Team Galactic and does so just to get his Lairon evolved into Aggron to which he then uses against Lucas to block him from participating in the Sinnoh League.
- He tries to forcibly catch Shaymin that was being held by Giratina and allowed Darkrai to held her hostage it just so he use both of them against the Sinnoh League, even to a point where Mars outright helped Shaymin and making Darkrai go away as she leads her to escape and challenges Paul just to stop him.
- Upon meeting Cynthia, the Sinnoh Champion, he challenges her to battle but not only does he lost and kept insulting her despite losing to her as he blames his own pokemons, to which Cynthia slaps him to knock out some sense out of him.
- During the Sinnoh League finals, he intentionally sabotages Lucas' team to fail against him, to which allowed him to brutally attack his pokemons while taunting him.
- Most of Paul's pokemons and Lucas' have affected form of hatred due to Paul selfishness and abuse towards Infernape and lead to Paul lost yet fainted from him;
- Gastordon against Lopunny, to which former paralyzing the latter as it used Body Slam then later gets frozen by Lopunny's Ice Bean and then defeated by Lucas' Torterra with using Leaf Storm
- Aggron against Lucario, having multiple stealth rocks against his team to get injured and using Earthquake yet is taken down by the latter with Close Combat and Extreme Speed anyways.
- Ninjask vs Starvia, due to speed, able to attack the latter multiple times yet immediately taken down by it's Brave Bird but with both of them fainting.
- Drapion vs Gliscor, with setting up Toxic Spikes and poisoning Gliscor was able to advantage against it however due to Gliscor's Ability, Poison Heal, it takes revenge for Lopunny and Starvia and defeating Drapion with mixed of Fire Fang and Crab Hammer and ending it with Earthquake.
- Froslass vs Torterra, because of the type disadvantage, Froslass with it's Snow Cloak Ability was able to freeze Torterra yet attacked as it used Frenzy Plant to have its health half down to allow Infernape to Fire Punch it down to defeat.
- With the final round between Lucas' Infernape and Paul's Electivire being long and tough, Paul kept reminding it of his abuse towards it and calling them pathetic as Electivire taunts him after the latter is low on health however Infernape's ability Blaze mixed with Iron Fist, grew enraged and gives Paul his own comeuppance, Close Combat and Raging Fury against Electivire to finally with both delivering the final blow, Yet Electivire was able to survive along with Infernape but soon as Paul orders it to use Thunder Punch, he noticed it was burned and had Life Orb which allowed it to be fainted and defeated with Lucas winning and Paul losing.
- Even if he lost, he refuses and commands his Electivire to use Thunder Punch at Infernape, even when it refuses, Paul still insults it and threatens to release them if they don't do it, however Infernape stays front of it to protect from him, despite all the causes, allowing Electivire to redeemed itself.
- Due to Paul’s abuse and selfishness, he was forcibly removed as a pokemon trainer as Cynthia takes all of his pokemon as punishment for all the damaged he caused, even when he kept the rest of his pokemons, they refuse to stay with him as they leave their trainer with only Ursaring as Paul's only Pokémon, as the rest of his Pokémon were adopted and treated well by other trainers, with his Electivire joining Cynthia.
