Peter "Pete" Anderson is a survivor of the outbreak who appears in both the comics and TV show adaptation of The Walking Dead. In both versions, he is a member of the Alexandria Safe-Zone, the abusive husband of Jessie Anderson and the father of Ron and Sam Anderson. In the comics, he serves as one of the two main antagonists of Volume 13: Too Far Gone. In the TV show, he serves as the main antagonist of the second half of Season 5.

He was portrayed by Corey Brill.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]

  • He is a stereotypical misogynistic man and alcoholic abuser who views his status as a patriarch an allowance to behave however he wants and get treated with undeserved respect.
  • He abuses his family both physically and emotionally, feeling no remorse for it. In both versions, he beats his wife and it's apparent he beats his son in the comics while he's implied to beat his younger son in the TV series.
  • He gets away with his abuse for a long time due to being Alexandria's surgeon, with the community's leader believing that his role is too valuable and hoping that things would get better with his family. However, this neglect to do anything only further enabled Pete's actions.
  • He gets angered when Rick begins investigating into his abuse and rudely tells him to piss off, then refuses to take responsibility for his actions when he is punished, instead feeling like he is being wronged and blames Rick and his group for ruining his community.
  • Later he gets into a physical fight with Rick, which almost gets Rick exiled from Alexandria. Rather than being exiled or locked up for starting the fight, Pete is simply relocated into a different house to separate him from his family.
  • Upon seeing Rick simply speak to Jessie, he tries to kill him with a knife (Michonne's sword in the TV series) but ends up killing Douglas' wife, Regina (Deanna's husband, Reg in the TV series) by slitting her throat and shows no remorse for it, only blaming Rick in a drunken outrage.
  • Although his TV counterpart has something of a sympathetic backstory in that he had a harsh past which is responsible for his anger issues, and had to give up his dream of becoming an artist so he could train as a surgeon to provide for his family, this is only mentioned in supplementary materials and doesn't excuse the horrible abuse of his family.
