Honest, also known as Prime Minister Honest, the Prime Minister and the First Minister, is one of the main antagonists of the manga/anime series Akame Ga Kill!. He is the Prime Minister of the Empire and the one truly in control, as he manipulates the Emperor for his own ends by exploiting his innocence, spreading misery, hunger, corruption and poverty throughout the land for no other reason than sadistic pleasure.
He was voiced by Kōji Ishii in Japanese and by Marty Fleck in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- His main personality trait is overall being an insanely corrupt official who exploits the naivety of the Emperor for his own personal benefit, causing a massive plague of elites to take advantage over the commoners in gruesome ways, whilst having the latters be tortured and executed for petty reasons.
- He's also shown to be a hedonistic cannibal who eats innocents, finding attractive women particularly "tasty" and even raping them, with a particular evidence being when he attempts to do such to a wounded Leone.
- Occassionally, he's also depicted as massively gluttonous, always eating large quantities of food with a lack of manners, which he outright denies it affecting his health at one point when Esdeath pointed that out.
- He doesn't even care about his family, with Syura being an example (even if he is a Hate Sink too) where he spoils him a lot and pragmatically calls him "incompetent" as a means of berating him, despite the latter deserving it for being just as vile. At one point, he even fakes mourning Syura's death before shrugging it off seconds later by saying "Oh, well".
- He only has one "Evil is cool" moment in the series where he is shown to have martial arts skills and good durability when fighting Leone, which even then can be outshined by the fact he tries to rape and eat her, and is already subverted with cowardice when she confronts him for the second time.
- The anime version even omits that moment, making Honest a mere coward when confronting Leone, despite the viscerality of that scene also being gone.
- His death, while very brutal, is played for Karma where in the manga, the people in the Empire get to harm him one at a time until he dies as retribution for the oppression they faced, whilst in the anime, Leone manages to beat Honest to death. In addition, it's also massively contrasted with the quick and painless death the Emperor receives.
- While he has over-the-top moments throughout the series, they don't detract him from his vile nature and can even emphasise several of his detestable traits.
