Remedios Custodio is character in the Overlord series. Her voice was provided by Hitomi Nabatame in Japanese and by Corey Pettit in English.
What Makes her Detestable?[]
- While she had some detractions like having some cool heroic moments, having genuine care for her sister Kelart Custodio and Queen Galca, and believing her acts are for the greater good, her actions outweigh her detractions to the point they don't affect her status or not that badly at least.
- Though she had done her actions out of heroic reasons, which normally would disqualify a Hate Sink status, her detestable actions outweigh those redeeming qualities to the point where they fail to hold any weight, so they don't disqualify her, as her actions did more harm than good mainly because of how delusional her moral agency is, as she has a warped sense of a completely black/white view of the world and right and wrong.
- She also becomes too detestable to sympathize by the end of the events of the Holy Kingdom Arc as the viewer gets to know and hate her during the entire arc of her doing detestable actions.
- Though she generally cares for her sister Kalart Custodio, she treats her way too harshly, such as using her as a scapegoat which is not an act of tough love.
- Despite claiming she promotes Queen Calaca's ideals, she fail to understand it as while Calaca promotes equality in all races and making sacrifices of a few to save more if needed, she does the opposite, promoting xenophobia and discouraging sacrificing others to save everyone as possible.
- Ironically she will go as far as to kill demi-human children for the "greater good" of her kingdom, proving she is a hypocrite.
- When her sister and Calaca tried to educate her on Calaca’s viewpoints, it failed to get through her skull.
- While Ainz Oowl Gown is responsible for the events of Holy Kingdom Arc, she hates him for prejudice of the undead, rather than genuine accusation or her having proof to back it up as nobody outside of Nazarick knows in-universe. She also hated his grey viewpoints due to her warped sense of a black/white world viewpoint to the point where she believed he charmed the people when he won over the liberation army and believed he was in cahoots with Jaldabaoth.
- While the latter is true, it is due to her sheer hatred and envy of him rather than a genuine guess or through some form of proof because as stated earlier nobody outside of Nazarick knows in-universe know it is true.
- She tends to steal credit for ideas or suggestions from others for herself for her own selfish gain.
- She vents out her anger at random people who weren't involved with all the things frustrating her.
- When Ainz Ooal Gown saved her life multiple times, she was completely ungraceful in every instance.
- She attempted to suggest killing CZ2128 Delta out of sheer prejudice even after showing she is an ally now.
- While at the end her mental state hits rock bottom due to her sister and Calaca's deaths, and her being demoted while her former underling Gustav takes over her spot, only her sister and Calaca death's are played for sympathy, NOT her. Her demotion played for Karma, well-deserved for her behavior and actions.
- In the next arc, Witch of the Falling Kingdom, she implied to been killed through unknown means offscreen. While not satisfying, it is not for sympathy either.
Trivia[]
- She is the only Overlord Hate Sink to be both a Hero and Villain so far as most of the series's Hate Sinks are Villains while Sir Furt and Madame Furt are neutral characters with little to no villainous acts other than generic greediness, save for selling their two remaining youngest daughters into slavery.
- She is one of the most hated characters in the Overlord series for her attitude and poor decision making which made the fandom nicknamed her "Retardios".
- Despite her actions, Overlord series creator stated her Karma rating is at least 200+, which is much higher than the more likable Gazef Stronoff's own karma raging.
- She is one of the few Hate Sinks to have a selfless qualify but due to how much warped her moral agency and how hatable her qualities are, it prevents that redeeming qualify from disqualifying her which would normally usually disqualify other Hate Sinks.
