| “ | Why destroy a city... when you can take it over? | „ |
| ~ ~ Ricardo Diaz to Cayden James. |
| “ | I always wondered why nobody just does that-- kill you straight. Turns out, it'd be a waste of time. You're more dangerous as a martyr than you are as Green Arrow, but before that happens, there's a lot left of you that I want to break. | „ |
| ~ ~ Richardo Diaz to Oliver Queen - his most famous quote. |
| “ | Vigilantes? No, they're—they're hypocrites. They think that they're upholding the law, but they're breaking the law. They're not heroes. They're criminals. The only difference between me and them is that I'm smart enough to realize that the only person worth looking out for is yourself. | „ |
| ~ ~ Diaz explaining his thoughts on vigilantes - his second famous quote. |
Ricardo Diaz, also known as the Dragon, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Deathstroke) of the TV series Arrow and a minor antagonist in the 2018 crossover Elseworlds.
He is a powerful drug kingpin and ruthless criminal mastermind who plotted to take over all of Star City, becoming one of Team Arrow's most dangerous and hated adversaries. He is also one of the darkest villains of the show as well as arguably one of Oliver Queen's three archenemies, with the others being Malcolm Merlyn and Adrian Chase. He serves as the Arrowverse's adaptation of the DC Comics villain, Richard Dragon.
He is portrayed by Kirk Acevedo.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Although he grew up bullied at an orphanage, this is too petty to excuse his actions.
- He hired an assassin named Karl Iscove to Cayden James' son and doctored a footage framing the Green Arrow for it. This makes him responsible for Cayden James' villainous actions including threatening to destroy Star City to find his son's killer.
- He also killed Karl to cut any loose ends.
- He doctored another footage incriminating Oliver Queen as the Green Arrow.
- After Cayden James was arrested, Diaz killed him in cell after revealing he was the one who had his son killed and then took over his organization.
- He manipulated Black Siren into joining his organization by playing on her fear that Dinah Drake will kill her in vengeance for her boyfriend Vincent's death.
- He takes over the Star City Police Department and has one of his agents drug Oliver with vertigo, nearly luring him into a trap by Diaz to kill him before he managed to escape.
- Although he briefly dated Black Siren, he never truly loved her and only saw her as a pawn and sexual slave. He even grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her if she disobeys him, subverting any affection he might have had for her.
- He burned his childhood bully alive out of petty vengeance, an act so cruel that even Black Siren was horrified and started avoiding him out of fear.
- When Rene Ramirez was about to testify at Oliver's trial, Diaz brought Rene's young daughter Zoe into the courtroom, silently threatening to kill her to force Rene to admit Oliver is the Green Arrow. This shows that he has no problem murdering children if it benefits his goal.
- When Black Siren turned against Diaz and tried to kill him, Diaz captured her and blackmailed Quentince Lance into surrendering to him. He then tried to kill Siren anyway, but ends up killing Quentin instead who took the bullet to save her, causing Black Siren to briefly relapse into villainy before being talked out of it by Felicity Smoak.
- He was responsible for Oliver being outed as the Green Arrow and arrested at Slabeside Maximum Security Prison for 7 months.
- He tried to kill Felicity and Oliver's son William Clayton.
- He invaded Slabside and started a prison riot to try to have Oliver killed, but was defeated and arrested.
- In a simulation, he killed Curtis Holt and led his Ghost Initiative inmates to escape A.R.G.U.S custody before realizing it never happened.
- He betrayed the Ghost Initiative to repay his debt with Dante.
- Although he was killed by Oliver's half-sister Emiko burning him alive in his cell, his death was played for satisfaction since he deserved it for everything he did, especially since he died the same way he killed his childhood bully.
- He is truly the worst villain in Arrow since, unlike other villains such as Malcolm Merlyn, Slade Wilson and Damien Darhk who are well-intentioned, have loved ones and shown remorse for their actions, Diaz only cares for himself, wasn't well-intentioned and never learned from his past actions.
