| ~ Rick to Wade before his death, also his last words. |
Richard "Rick", is a minor antagonist in the 2018 live-action film Ready Player One. He is the boyfriend of Wade's Aunt Alice who regularly abuses Wade. He was portrayed by Ralph Ineson, who played Amycus Carrow in Harry Potter.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- While he is dating Wade's Aunt Alice there is no evidence that he truly loves her.
- He presumably abused Wade throughout his childhood till he was 18.
- When Wade comes back home, he aggressively pulls Wade out of his room and pins him up against the wall slapping him across the face. While blaming him for his loss in a game because of Wade's gloves.
- When Wade told Rick that he lost a match why didn't he just respawn and level up like everyone else, to which Rick told him he doesn't get it and bought all these power-ups for the challenge and lost it all.
- He spent all of the house money on upgrades when Alice ask how much he tells her all of it but he was going to win.
- Thanks to him spending all the house money on upgrades he completely ruined his girlfriend and her nephew's chance of leaving the poor town their living at.
- When Wade tells him his boys were in that challenge and that he couldn't have beat them in a bootsuit, he punches Wade in the face.
- When Alice tells him to go to his room he says ''come on Alice'' showing he is essentially a grown manchild.
- He steals his X-1 bodysuit when Wade is absent.
- While Wade runs home to try and warn them that they're in danger due to Sorrento sending drones to the house, he ignores Wade asking to put Alice on the phone, even ignoring Alice who asks to speak to Wade. He then tells Wade that he never wants to hear his voice ever again before his and Alice's deaths, having his wish granted.
- His action of not giving Alice the phone to hear Wade's warning caused his, Alice and presumably other bystanders' deaths.
- His death, since it also happened while Aunt Alice died, isn't played for satisfaction. However, it's also not played for sympathy as he deserves it for all the abuse he inflicted on Wade.
- Overall, he lacks any redeeming qualities, even Sorrento has redeeming qualities and evil-is-cool factors compared to him.
