Captain Robert Daly is the main antagonist and villain protagonist in the Black Mirror episode "USS Callister". He is the captain of the USS Callister.
What Makes Him Hateable?[]
- At first glance, he is a nerd who is simply living out his fantasy as a spaceship Captain. However, the truth turns out to be far more sinister.
- He clones people who anger him and abuses them in his game world. And he also digitally castrated them. (Though Nanetteās reaction is comedic.)
- While digital, the clones are still sentient. And the environment he traps them in is boring.
- When Nanette exhibits disinterest in going out with him (though she was nice to him otherwise), he decides to make her one of the clones so that he can live out his fantasies with her.
- While abusive to his crew when in a bad mood, he becomes worse when the crew disobey him. Nanette, who decided not to obey him, had her face erased until she complied.
- While he could have done worse, he forces his female crew to kiss him, which is sexual harassment.
- If his crew anger him enough, they will be turned into monsters.
- Since Walton kept disobeying him, he decided that he would torture him by making him watch his son Tommy die. He killed him by sending him out through the airlock, which made him freeze and shatter into pieces.
- When Valdack begs to be killed to escape the alternate reality, Captain Daly refuses. Additionally, he says that killing in cold blood is against the Space Fleet code, which is hypocritical considering what he did to Tommy.
- When his clones come up with an escape plan, he decides that he shall torment them on a biblical level. And he also intended to kill Tommy again.
- Walton says that while what he did to Daly may not be nice, it does not excuse the way he treated him.
