Ryo Ogino is the main antagonist in the 2023 original anime series Buddy Daddies. He is the sociopathic assassin who worked under Shigeki Suwa's organization as one of the top assassins and the most fearsomely skilled, as well as the one behind the death of Kazuki's late and pregnant wife, Yuzuko Kurusu.
He is voiced by Mitsuaki Madono in Japanese and John Gremillion in English.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He's of any means a repugnant, cold-hearted, cruel, and sociopathic assassin who, unlike Kazuki and Rei who performed their assassination missions for monetary and financial purposes, he enjoys doing his job in a less sadistic concept but for the fact he has the twisted habit of writing down his victims' final words on his personal journal. Presumably as of any means of finding any satiation to his own depravity and comes off as incredibly disrespectful to anyone he interacts with at times, this kind of behavior earned the scorn of even Rei Suwa himself, whom he described his reasons for killing as "distasteful".
- He isn't above just killing his targets, who are usually rich people with criminal activities, but also innocent people too. He's revealed to have killed the girlfriend of Rei's mentor and took a degree of showing a sadistic smirk over it. This highly disturbed Rei when he first saw the photo of it.
- He's ultimately behind the (indirect) death of Yuzuko Kurusu, Kazuki Kurusu's wife, who was also pregnant at that time when he used a sniper rifle to shoot down the tires of his targets when they were trying to get away, only to result in hitting down a gasoline truck and caused an explosion that caught Yuzuko in the act. This eventually had an impactful change on Kazuki and the reason for his behavior till now, sending him into a fit of depression and blaming himself for her death.
- What's worse is that Ogino is likely implied to have been aware of this and yet shows absolutely zero remorse for this, which he brought her up on taunting Kazuki later on in the present, which is the same time before his timely demise.
- He wasn't above threatening to harm children as well, as he proceeds of targeting Miri Unasaka, Kazuki and Rei's adoptive daughter, after having to spy on them under Shigeki's orders and was prepared to kill her without any hesitation as well.
- He personally killed Misaka Unasaka, Miri's mother, who had just reconciled with her daughter and wanted to spend more time with her after getting cancer and intended to record her final words before proceeding to kill Miri next. When Kazuki states her final words as requested by Ogino himself, he replied by saying it comes off as "mundane" at best, which angered the former.
- Though because of this, this likely left Miri an orphan thanks to him. Although Misaka originally hated her own daughter and abandoned her, she did her best to reconnect with her and shows remorse over it, and she literally didn't deserve to die due to this. Especially when compared to her father, who had an affair with her, is an implied human trafficker, and unknowingly used his own daughter as a human shield at gunpoint.
- He proceeds to taunt Kazuki regarding his late wife and tried to record his last words out of spite, then eventually strangles Rei, making sure he doesn't state his final words like his mentor (unaware Rei lied to keep his mentor's words to himself out of honor). This eventually led to his deservingly karmic demise and ironically, for a person who enjoys recording his victims' final words, gets a taste of his own medicine when Kazuki lights the room where he and his journal burnt to a crisp.
