~ Scorpion after poisoning Spider-Man. |
MacDonald "Mac" Gargan, better known by his alias Scorpion, is a major antagonist in the 2018 action-adventure superhero video game Marvel's Spider-Man and a minor antagonist in its 2023 sequel Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
He was voiced by Jason Spisak.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Even before becoming the Scorpion, Gargan was already a horrible person when he was normal, as he was heartless serial killer who had a reputation for kidnapping people and then proceeding to torture and/or kill them. It's also mentioned that he partook in robberies and illegal gambling since he was a teenager.
- Although he was forcibly experimented on by J. Jonah Jameson in the past, this does nothing to excuse his actions since he was already evil prior to that.
- He doesn't care about Octavius or his teammates, since he only works with them to get paid and do whatever he wants. For example, he has repeatedly insulted Rhino, which led to Rhino angrily shoving him into a shipping container starting a fight with him.
- He tried to poison the water supply in New York under Octavius' orders, which placed all the citizens in danger of dying of thirst and having hallucinogenic nightmares.
- He poisoned Spider-Man with a hallucinogenic drug and then forced him to confront his worst fears by mocking him over his past mistakes just to break him psychologically. He did the same thing on Miles in the second game after tricking him into freeing him.
- His death of getting stabbed with his own stinger by Kraven, while brutal, is absolutely deserved for everything he had done.
- Unlike the other Sinister Six members, he lacks any redeeming qualities and he only does what he does because he enjoys torturing and killing people, also comitting other crimes purely for money. Therefore, he is easily the most despicable villain in the main game as the only one without a sympathetic trait.
- Even compared to other villains (with the exception of Simon Krieger), his "Evil Is Cool" factor is much downplayed due to relying on sneak attacks or his teammates, also having lesser health. This shows that Scorpion, for all his big talk, is just a small fry who preys on those weaker than him.
