Screwball, also referred to as Topsy Turvy, is an antagonist within the My Little Pony Fanfiction series "Pony Psychology" within its sequel Secrets and Lies, which were both written by Saddlesoap Opera. She has her first debut in Chapter 1 within the sequel, not appearing again until Chapters 6 and 7.
She is a very thin and pink earth pony who used to be a pegasus. She also runs the Joke Shop in Ponyville.
After losing her powers after Discord got imprisoned in stone, she decides to plan to make Twilight Sparkle and her friends as miserable as possible by bullying and harassing them for no reason out of pure spite, despite them having never meeting each other before.
In the story "Secrets and Lies" in Chapter 1 of "Not Even Ashes" , after having Twilight Sparkle forced to kill her in self-defense, Screwball will seemingly have come back as a poltergeist as a way to continue on being a nuisance and harass Twilight Sparkle for no reason other to spite her.
However, in Chapter 6 of "The Second Element", Screwball would then impersonate Nurse Sweetheart at an Asylum that Fluttershy gets taken in after Twilight Sparkle wrongly accuses her. Screwball would wait until Fluttershy's friends leave her before using it as an opportunity to have Fluttershy kill herself by eating poisonous berries.
In Chapter 7 of "What You Sow", Screwball will go attempt to murder Twilight Sparkle directly, revealing that Screwball was alive and only pretended to be dead for the whole time just to torment Twilight Sparkle and make her whole week a living hell and ruin her life and her friendships for absolutely no reason other than to spite her.
What Makes Her A Hate Sink?[]
Background[]
- Screwball is described to be an irritatingly smug, obnoxious, extremely rude, selfish, sadistic, and self-absorbed Pegasus upon not being corrupted by Discord, decides to come after Twilight Sparkle to make her very miserable after losing all the powers she had when she was Discorded.
- She is also very racist against dragons, ponies, unicorns, and pegasai, as she would often use slurs against them a lot. (i.e. Screwheads, twinklers, barehoofs, mudhooves, buzzards, etc.)
- She goes her way to bully and harass Twilight and her friends for no reason at all, even though they have done nothing wrong to her.
- Unlike her original counterpart, she doesn't genuinely care for Discord, as she only want him back for her own selfish desires of getting her own powers back, finding her own happiness as most important than anything else.
- She is willing to go her way to insult anybody she didn't like, especially Twilight Sparkle.
- Screwball has also stalked Twilight throughout most of her life, with Twilight never even knowing her to begin with, which is very unfair that Screwball decides to hate Twilight for no reason.
- She would also have Twilight Sparkle be psychologically tortured to the point that the latter felt lost, alone and hopeless, as well as making Twilight Sparkle so scared of failing her friends to the point of pushing them away in fear that they would turn against her like what happened when Discord was free.
- In Chapter 6, she drove Fluttershy, who was Twilight's first friend, to suicide in the Mental Asylum as a way to spite Twilight Sparkle. She would later mock Twilight and her friends about it as an attempt to break their spirits in Chapter 7. Luckily, Fluttershy does survive thanks to her friends.
- In Chapter 7, she attempts to murder Twilight Sparkle out of spite.
- When she was given mercy and a chance to redeem herself, Screwball mocks them and is shown to have zero remorse for her actions as she says that she is not sorry and that she'll do it again, showing that she refuses to redeem herself, leaving Twilight to the decision to have Screwball killed again to stop her from hurting her friends.
- Screwball's actions would also cause Twilight to be untrusting with her own friends as she would tend to think that she was getting gaslighted, even thinking that Fluttershy, her first ever friend, was planning to betray her and the Main Six are siding with Discord.
- Despite having some brief comedic moments and having a song with a catchy tune, it doesn't detract of how nasty and vile she is.
Chapter 1: Not Even Ashes[]
- In the beginning of Chapter 1, Screwball attempted to attack Twilight, forcing the latter to kill her in self-defense. However, Twilight also had to hide it from the others in fear that if the truth were to be revealed could tear Twilight and her friends' friendship apart. This, including Screwball constantly harassing her as a poltergeist, would cause Twilight Sparkle to slowly lose her sanity and cause her to have angry outbursts.
- She vandalized Twilight's library with garish purple paint on the walls saying some cruel, hateful, and offensive slurs. The paint had also stained the walls of her home, with one of the said slurs being "FREAK". This slur reminded Twilight Sparkle of when she was bullied and slandered by other students as a filly when one of the bullies called her that a "freak" after becoming Celestia's student.
- Screwball would also vandalize the wall in Twilight Sparkle's room, where she used graffiti to write "WELCOME HOME, FREAK".
- When Screwball decides to go and see Twilight Sparkle at the Library, she would at first act polite on her introduction, only to then immediately reveal her true colors as she would later tell Twilight Sparkle that "the joke's on [her]".
- She even shows to find it funny when Twilight into walloping Pinkie Pie in the face with a book and caused the latter to burst into tears out of finding it fun due to a trap that Screwball planned herself, while even saying that the reason why she made Twilight Sparkle did so was so she could spite her. Despite the two never knowing each other for Screwball to have a reason for doing this, she would say that it was "hate at first sight", meaning that she started hating Twilight for no actual reason at all. Even when Twilight says that she doesn't even know her, Screwball tells her to not to "spoil the moment" before rudely slapping her across the face.
- Screwball would also refer to Twilight Sparkle's friendship lessons as "mayhem and damage control", while also calling Twilight Sparkle and her friends as "the biggest losers [that Screwball] has ever seen" just as a way to spite her.
- Screwball has no respect for Twilight Sparkle's privacy, as she read the latter's textbook that had stuff written from when Twilight Sparkle was a foal, barging into rooms when Twilight Sparkle wanted her to leave her alone, and Twilight's diary that was filled with some very embarrassing stuff, while also insulting the way she has hoofnotes and citations in it.
- Screwball also mocks Twilight Sparkle's dream about having Princess Celestia adopting the latter as her daughter (right after Twilight Sparkle's parents were to DIE OF OLD AGE), while also calling Twilight Sparkle an "undead egghead" for even wishing that because of Celestia being a goddess.
- Even though Screwball is shown to like it when Discord took over Ponyville and put magic into everything and giving Earth Ponies the ability to fly, Screwball only cared about her own happiness and nobody else's.
- Screwball would also call Twilight Sparkle "Twily", knowing very well that the latter hates when other ponies, except Shining Armor, call her by that nickname.
- When Twilight tells her that she helped Shining Armor and Princess Cadance protecting their wedding from Queen Chrysalis, Screwball would call Twilight a "stuck-up, magic-spewing, undead THING" and telling her that they didn't need her to keep it safe, before saying in Princess Celestia's voice by calling her "an utter waste of valuable time" and "a total disappointment", while also saying in her voice that she should have just gotten a cat than have Twilight Sparkle to spite her. Screwball would then call Twilight Sparkle a "freak", "failure" and a slur used for unicorns, causing Twilight Sparkle to go in a blind rage and cause the latter to make an explosion of battle magic, causing Twilight Sparkle to pass out.
Chapter 6: The Second Element[]
- When Fluttershy gets falsely accused to have betrayed the Main Six by Twilight Sparkle, was committed to a Mental Asylum and was driven to madness after Twilight Sparkle betrayed her, Screwball would then pose Nurse Sweetheart's body as a way to deceive Twilight Sparkle and her friends.
- Screwball would force Fluttershy to eat Palfrey’s Nightshade Berries. She would then mock Fluttershy by saying that the guards couldn't tell the berries from wild cherries. When Fluttershy tells her that Palfrey's Nightshade was poisonous, Screwball smugly tells Fluttershy that she was going to "set her free" before giggling at her, meaning that Screwball was planning to have Fluttershy eat the poisonous berries as a cruel "joke". Screwball would also mock Fluttershy by calling her a slur that is used for Pegasi, telling her that Fluttershy would never be able to get out of the Mental Asylum just to break her spirit.
- When Fluttershy tells her that she will tell her friends about this, Screwball would mimic Big Mackintosh by saying "Eenope" before calling Fluttershy a "madpony" and that nobody would believe her, while also telling Fluttershy will eat the poisonous Palfrey's Nightshade Berries to kill herself, before giving a broad, smug grin.
- Screwball would ingenuously try to way to talk Fluttershy into eating the poisonous berries, saying that she is "offering [Fluttershy] a way out" and lying that she didn't plan for Fluttershy to end up in the Mental Asylum. Even if Twilight Sparkle did partially have responsibility for it, Screwball was the one who purposely caused Twilight Sparkle to lose her sanity, which caused Twilight Sparkle to not be able to think properly.
- At the end of her song "Everypony Ought to Be Afraid", Screwball would also steal a plush toy from a patient, making them cry. She would also have all the other Asylum Patients exit out of the entrance, leaving Fluttershy all alone and terrified to the point of despair, leading to her to eat the poisonous berries and killing herself.
- Even though Fluttershy would later be revived in the next chapter, it still highlights how malicious that Screwball is willing to go to make people suffer for her own enjoyment.
Chapter 7: What You Sow[]
- When Twilight Sparkle was feeling guilt about letting Princess Celestia down, losing her friends due to the mess she made, and dooming Equestria, Screwball would come and mock her and showing a horrifying, flesh-less face. Screwball would also insinuate that Twilight Sparkle should kill herself in Princess Celestia's voice as a way to psychologically abuse her, while also telling Twilight Sparkle that she was not "good enough" and making Twilight Sparkle feel all alone to make her fall more into despair. However, Spike would interrupt this as he came to tell Twilight Sparkle about Rarity only to see Screwball.
- When Twilight tries to lie to Spike that the person beside her was Pinkie Pie, Screwball would force smash Twilight Sparkle into the puddle of mud as an attempt to drown her and tells Spike that she is going to kill his "mother" Twilight Sparkle while giving a smug, sadistic chuckle before lundging herself on top of him and crushing Spike's sunglasess, in which Screwball would then say in mock frustration with"Trust a Dragon to mess up a good joke, amirite? Guess I’ll have to do a little dragon-slaying before I go back to work on you!". This means that Screwball was wanting to murder Spike.
- Screwball would reveal that she was actually alive the whole time, Screwball would smugly tell Twilight Sparkle that she didn't to spoil the trick, calling her stunt as "funny", much to Twilight Sparkle's fury of all the psychological torment Screwball put her through. Screwball would go as to mock Twilight Sparkle that she wanted to have the world be doomed as a way to provoke her for her own entertainment.
- Screwball would show to be very sadistic as she was beating up Twilight before using a rant while using slurs by calling Unicorns "Screwheads" calling ponies "Mudhooves", and calling pegasai "buzzards", before proceeding to keep beating up Twilight Sparkle and attempting to get Twilight Sparkle killed all because Screwball thinks that it is "fun", even to the point Twilight's ribs got fractured.
- When Twilight Sparkle says that it doesn't matter as not that she has a death wish, but her other five friends would be horrified and filled with disgust of what Screwball would do and try to stop the latter and keep Spike associated with them. However, Screwball would then reveal that Fluttershy killed herself out of sadistic glee of breaking Twilight Sparkle's spirit, also mocking her of how Fluttershy died all alone and terrified, while saying that she should've told Fluttershy about it sooner as a way to guilt-trip her. After that, Screwball would attempt to destroy Twilight's Sparkle's horn by constantly hitting it with her hoof.
- When Twilight Sparkle has a breakdown due to the constant torment, Screwball would mock her by saying that Twilight Sparkle only thing she has left is a pulse as she proceeds to try to outright murder Twilight Sparkle. Luckily, Rainbow Dash intervened before Screwball could go any further with it.
- When Rainbow Dash tells Twilight that she is not going to let her die despite being angry at Twilight Sparkle, Screwball would mock Rainbow Dash before arrogantly telling her that she is messing with an earth pony who doesn't hold back, before using a slur against Rainbow Dash by calling her a "buzzard".
- As Applejack and Rarity both come with Rainbow Dash to help encounter Screwball, they were all horrified of how horribly Twilight Sparkle was beaten down, with Screwball saying that Twilight was not good at killing her and mocking them about Fluttershy being dead a few hours after being roped in the situation, before mocking Fluttershy by imitating her voice, crying in sadistic joy. This lead to Twilight Sparkle's friends being very appalled of Screwball's maliciousness, with Rainbow Dash attempting to charge at Screwball in a howl of rage. Screwball would then make Rainbow Dash stop dead into the air and fall down to the dirty ground, covered in mud, with Screwball mocking Rainbow Dash even more afterwards that Applejack wasn't close enough to stop her in time and that she'll never learn. Screwball would then bite down on the edge Rainbow Dash's wing hard causing some bones to break and playing it off as a "joke".
- Even Pinkie Pie would tell Screwball that she was not funny (as Screwball was being mean, hurting ponies psychologically and physically, and tried to murder Twilight Sparkle), showing that even the former is disgusted of Screwballs actions. Rarity and Applejack would also agree that Screwball is not funny.
- When Pinkie Pie tells her that, Screwball would arrogantly call Pinkie Pie a "nag" and that it was "hilarious", leading to Pinkie Pie to push Screwball and smash her into the Joke shop's front door.
- When Fluttershy is revealed to have survived her suicide attempt and was shown to be angry at Twilight Sparkle, Screwball would tell Fluttershy to kill Twilight Sparkle, while also calling Fluttershy a "buzzard". Thankfully, Fluttershy refuses to harm Twilight Sparkle and forgives the latter.
- When the main six has come together, Screwball would scoff at them and say that Discord was already spread to Ponyville, while still being an arrogant and smug jerk. However, Twilight would reveal that Rarity had triggered the Pathetic Fallacy, of which stressed unicorns let stress and any negative feelings into their magic, meaning that the Ponyvilians were not falling into chaos, but were just feeling upset and unappreciated and that they could undo the spell meaning that it would cause the magic to destroy Rarity's dresses. Rarity was also willing to make that sacrifice to help undo the spell.
- When Rarity and Twilight Sparkle were able to undo the spell, Screwball would have a villainous breakdown and throw a tantrum like a spoiled brat and never recovering from said breakdown. Twilight Sparkle would also confront Screwball for her actions of what she did and almost made her lose her friends, with Screwball rudely saying that she is not sorry and is willing to do it again, while also calling Twilight Sparkle a "freak".
- Twilight Sparkle would stand up against Screwball that it is not about herself, but her friends as well, and that she'll prove that the main six are not cruel, hateful, nor selfish.
- When Screwball would tell Twilight Sparkle to tell her friends of what a "monster" the latter was, Twilight Sparkle would ignore Screwball and say that the Element Magic changed Twilight and will stay with her forever. Screwball would rudely gag at Spike and the Mane Six's friendship, and telling them to spare her, with Twilight Sparkle having enough of Screwball's psychological torment. When Twilight Sparkle gave Screwball a chance to try to be a better person, Screwball rudely refuses her chance of redemption, leading to The Mane Six to send her into red magic sphere and launched her into the horizon into an area far away from Ponyville and into a red landscape somewhere.
- When Screwball landed in a red-skied landscape thirsty and tired, she was shown to still not be over with her petty revenge against Twilight Sparkle, even fantasizing about choking her with her make and putting her eyes out with her own horn.
- When Screwball believes that Discord had finally escaped and was eager to get her revenge on Twilight Sparkle, it would later reveal that "Discord" was actually Queen Chrysalis.
- Screwball's heavily implied defeat of getting fed off by Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings is well-deserved and is quite satisfying for all the terrible things that she has done.

- This is the only version of Screwball to be considered as a Hate Sink so far.
- Screwball can somewhat be seen as the opposite of Pinkie Pie. While Pinkie Pie's tricks are to actually let ponies have fun and make people happy, Screwball does very mean and cruel "pranks" that makes others feel unhappy, get hurt, and is willing to attempt to murder Twilight Sparkle to make herself happy.
