Sensei O'Sullivan is a minor antagonist in Despicable Me 4. He is the sadistic teacher of the karate class that Edith and Agnes Gru have attended while going undercover.
He is voiced by Brad Ableson.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- Despite being a karate teacher, he is shown to have no qualms about abusing the kids in his care, Instead of teaching them how to defend themselves, he scares the children into obedience.
- He doesn't seem to realize that the students are too scared by his harsh treatment of them to actually learn the ways of Karate, further showing how stupid and unintelligent he is. What doesn’t help is how ugly his physical appearance is, as he is very chubby and has a belly button sticking out to show his obesity.
- He berates one of his students named Moscovitch for not cutting his hair and saying that he "looks like a sheepdog". Moscovitch’s reaction implies he has done this before.
- When Agnes is told to introduce herself, but she can't say her undercover name, he ruthlessly berates her by saying that "there's no can't in karate" before giving her ten push-ups after class (despite her being a 6 year old). When she still refuses, he tells her to go sit in the time-out chair of Disgrace and Reflection.
- He goes up to Edith and faces her for talking back, admitting that he isn't afraid to fight children or hit women, and prepares to actually fight her, despite her being 9 years old.
- Him getting his pinky toe broken by Edith and later and getting hit by the gong, while comedic, is played for satisfaction, as he deserves this for bullying and abusing his students.
- Him losing to Edith was extremely pathetic as he has a black belt.
- Much like Miss Hattie, Sensei O'Sullivan is in charge of a children establishment and is very strict towards Gru's daughters. However, he never interacted with Margo, as only Edith and Agnes went to his karate class.
- Overall, he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, since he takes pleasure in bullying, insulting, and hurting his own students; this also shows that he is also quite immature.
- Although he does have a few comedic moments, especially when he interacts with Edith, he is not that enjoyable compared to other guys in the movie like Maxime. Actually, his harsh treatment towards his students, especially Agnes, just makes him more despisable.
