Shane Wyland is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Into the Woods". He is a pedophilic serial killer who preys on young boys on the Appalachian Trail.

He was portrayed by Gill Gayle.

Why is He a Hate Sink?

• He has always been a deviant as he sexually assaulted a ten-year-old boy in 1994.
• Before the events of the episode, he was responsible for the molestation and murder of 12 boys along the Appalachian Trail between 2001 and 2010, which he kept and abused for months until the season ended.
• Despite easily deserving it, there was no reason except being a jerk to steal drugs named "Devil's Claw" from Brandon Stiles, who he used as a drug dealer several times before.
• Abducted Robert and Ana Brooks and kept them in a cage for days, eventually he molests Robert, traumatizing him.
• When Robert and Ana get out of the cage and stun him, he grabs onto Ana's leg, but Robert helps his sister, which leads to Shane capturing Robert.
• To get revenge on Robert, he abducts him and transport him to Stiles for drugs and so the latter can abuse Robert himself
• Cowardly leaves Stiles to be arrested by the police, showing how much he didn't care for him.
• He is a karma Houdini who is not caught at the end of the story, although, his leg injury and no food would most likely kill him.
