My students used to skip down the hill to the honeysuckle.

Pluck a couple, And collect their nectar till they picked their fill.

Except one obnoxious kid, Sid.

Who just watched them eat the flowers While he seethed and scowled Cause he couldn't bear to share his sweet treats thought out our recess hour.

~ The teacher describing Sid.
I remember Sid saying:

"There's a man in the woods!"

That's how the rumors began. Of course, Sid had spotted him first.

The poor kids. He got ‘em immersed in his spiel About a serial killer whose gun barrel glint hint said peril.

~ Sid starting the rumor of "The Man in the Woods" which kickstarted the events of the story.

Sid is the main antagonist of the 2014 animated short film There's A Man in the Woods. He is a troublemaking student who lies about a "Man in the Woods" so he could have the honeysuckle flowers for himself all because he doesn’t like to share them which all led to the Teacher descending into madness resulting in the former's karmic fate.

What makes him a Hate Sink?[]

  • Even before he spread the rumors about "The Man in the Woods", he is an obnoxious, bratty and greedy kid who would try to hog all the honeysuckles for himself.
  • In the first scene he's in, when he sees some of his classmates eat the nectar from the honeysuckle, he would snatch the honeysuckle flowers from some of his classmates because he doesn't like to share them.
  • He would spread a rumor that there's a crazed maniac in the woods as a way of scaring off the other children from collecting honeysuckles so that he could collect all the honeysuckles for himself.
  • When the teacher attempts to get a kid to think and learn to not believe the rumors, Sid comes in and scares the kid by gesturing his fingers to that of the supposed man in the woods with a smile on his face.
  • His lies eventually reached the entire town, and soon parents began to complain to the school about the supposed man in the woods. When the teacher tries to convince the staff and teachers that there's no such thing as a man in the woods, he gets blamed and fired. This led to the teacher becoming jobless and resorting to drinking heavily and using drugs as a way to cope. This all led to the once friendly teacher to become a cynical and bitter person.
  • He finally gets what he deserves when the teacher seeks revenge and drives to his former school through the woods, waiting for Sid to be alone while he's collecting honeysuckles, pulling out an object out of his trench coat (most likely a gun), and most likely killing him, becoming the "Man in the Woods" that Sid lies about. And considering what he has done, his fate is considered deserved by most of the viewers.
