Simon Wens is a minor character in the 2013 video game Papers, Please. He is a serial child murderer who has escaped from prison in the United Federation and is trying to reenter his native Arstotzka. He is the archenemy of a vengeful father whom the player can assist in his plans to personally deal with Wens.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?

• He has murdered at least three children, including Julia, the daughter of a vengeful father who visits the Inspector.
• He escaped from prison, presumably in order to murder more children.
• The photo of the late Julia that the father shows the Inspector is played for tragedy and makes the stakes immensely personal.
• He threatens the Inspector if they notice that he's on Arstotzka's most wanted list.
• If the player shows Wens the photo, he cowardly runs away back to Kolechia.
• His death, should the player assist the vengeful father, is played purely for satisfaction and catharsis.
  • The news headline the day after Wens enters confirming his death implies his death was very brutal just like the how the father said he'd make him suffer, but this is treated as karmic.
  • The player gets an achievement, and the United Federation token.
