Spandam is the one of the main antagonists of the Enies Lobby Arc along with Rob Lucci as the leader of the CP9. He was also the former leader of the CP5 until running CP9 but now he is part of the CP0.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is the most cruel and arrogant CP9 member, as he is weak, but he is experienced in physical and mental torture.
- Claimed he wanted the blueprints for Pluton so that the weapon could be used for combatting threats when in reality, he wanted to take control of Pluton to take over the world himself.
- Unjustly executed Tom (the father figure of Cutty Flam a.k.a. Franky and Iceburg) for building Roger's ship, the Oro Jackson, since the World Government actually gave Tom a full pardon in exchange for the Water Train, linking Water 7 to several other islands.
- He stole the ships Franky built as practice and had them fire on Water 7 to frame Franky and his fellow shipwrights to get at Tom by proxy, forcing Tom to renounce his pardon in exchange for Franky's life.
- This action enraged Franky by giving him a permanent scar on his face using a rifle handle, which is a well-deserving for Spandam for framing those shipwrights.
- As Tom was being transported to Enies Lobby, he laughed as Franky was run over after failing to stop the train, forcing Franky to transform himself into a cyborg, using random scrap, in order to survive.
- At Enies Lobby Arc, he is at his worst by torturing Nico Robin and Franky for such a long period he enjoys beating up Robin and also trampling her. His beating of Robin was bad enough to disgust the cold-blooded Rob Lucci since he saw it as bad for someone to beat down on someone defenseless.
- He called Nico Robin a whore and break her down when he mentioned about his father's action during Ohara.
- He triggered the Buster Call which caused destruction and potential deaths.
- He is very arrogant of himself and feels that he can do whatever he likes.
- When Robin is free of her restraints, she immediately took her rage out by slapping his face hard until he is completely swollen.
- Frankly took an opportunity to have revenge as well by punching his face and smashing him with an elephant, which was Spandam's own sword "fed" a Zoan Devil Fruit.
- Robin gave a final blow to Spandam by breaking his spine in half though he survived.
- Due to his failure of Buster Call at Ernie’s Lobby, he pinned the blame towards the CP9 agents, which made them fugitives.
- At one point, he was promoted to being a CP0 chief thanks to his father’s influence, but he is still a weak fighter. However, he was demoted to being an agent thanks to the former CP9 agents’ training and stopping Spandine’s criminal plan, as the former CP9 not only got reinstated, but promoted to being CP0 agents, and this was played with satisfaction, when karma came back get him of losing influence and power.
- Only works for Rob Lucci due to fear of him, not out of any true loyalty as Spandam tried to have Lucci killed earlier. Also, Lucci gets to enjoy mocking him now that Lucci is in charge.
