Steven Erickson is a minor antagonist of the Invincible Image comics and its Amazon adaptation of the same name, where he serves as the main antagonist of the Invincible: Atom Eve special. He is the leader of the Global Defense Agency who performed questionable experiments on multiple children, being directly responsible for all of Samantha Wilkes' childhood trauma.
He was voiced by the late Lance Reddick.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- While he is an extremist who works to help the government, he is never portrayed even remotely sympathetically or heroically, otherwise being so incredibly hateable, delusional, remorseless and narcisstic to the point it's not even a minor "Love to Hate" factor.
- He is incredibly rude to everyone around him, not just his enemies and experiments but even his own allies.
- There are many horrific experiments he has done that ruined both Eve and many others' lives. In short, he put Eve's entire family (mother, siblings and even her father figure Brandyworth) in a Fate Worse than Death for 10 years and indirectly caused their deaths in one way or another, which he felt no remorse for.
- He showed Atom Eve and Elias the brain-dead Polly and taunted then them about it for no reason other than to prove he doesn't need Elias any more.
- He accidentally killed Polly and Elias, not showing any remorse, instead cowardly trying to apologize and deflect blame by saying it's an accident.
- He is responsible for Atom Eve's horrible childhood and permanent trauma.
- He gets a well-deserved and satisfying defeat as he is turned brain-dead by Atom Eve.
- Unlike most villains, he is taken dead seriously and has no comical moments, managing to disgust both the audience and characters in-universe with his horrific actions almost just as much as seeing Omni Man brutally murdering several people and almost killing his own son. Unlike Omni Man, however, there is nothing remotely likeable or entertaining about him.
