Syura is a major antagonist in the Akame ga Kill! manga/anime series, serving as the main antagonist of the Wild Hunt Arc, and as a minor antagonist in the prequel Akame ga Kill! Zero. He is the cruel, selfish, and spoiled leader of the Wild Hunt and the son of Prime Minister Honest. He, along with his group, abuse their power by committing various crimes for fun.
He was voiced by Ryōhei Kimura in Japanese, and by Adam Noble in the English dub.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- He is an extremely cruel and sadistic man who enjoys harassing the civilians of the empire and killing them as he pleases, while using the women for sex toys, and is seen to be quite abusive with them. He has a tendency to lick his lips whenever picking up a woman.
- A prime example of this is in one of his first appearances where he murders a prostitute solely for talking bad about his father.
- He is shown to not handle complaints in how he operates as an official, retorting to making anyone submit to him by using his position as Prime Minister Honest's son, which is portrayed like how a spoiled brat would behave.
- In the prequel Manga Akame ga Kill! Zero, he is seen stomping an official to death for the petty reason of "bossing" around him.
- He exploited his status as the son of the Prime Minister by founding Wild Hunt which was created for causing and relishing in chaos, abusing their power and position to terrorize the entire Empire with their vile acts.
- Along with Enshin, Cosmina and Champ, he raped and killed all the members of the Umatora Theater before sadistically commenting on how "Humans really do make the best toys" due to their reactions towards his atrocities.
- Along with Enshin and Champ, he raped Bols' wife and daughter on his grave, which disgusted both Wave and even the Imperial Police, who covered the corpses.
- His hedonistic nature further crosses the line as he grabs Kurome's arm and plans to rape her, justifiably angering Wave as a result.
- Whenever he is scolded by his father, he always throws a tantrum over not being appreciated rather than doing anything to genuinely please him, proving more of how much of a bratty manchild he is.
- Smashed Lubbock's testicles when he refused to tell him where Night Raid's base was, and planned to also mutilate one of his eyeballs.
- Started taunting to Lubbock about how Esdeath was having sexual activities with Tatsumi (despite it not happening) as a means of spiting him and possibly persuading him to tell information on the Night Raid.
- His relationship with his father is entirely pragmatic as during his final moments, he goes on a breakdown as he cannot overtake him anymore.
- While less hateable in the Anime, he still retains a deplorable personality as the aforementioned scene of murdering a prostitute is still present and he still acts possessive by claiming that everything is a toy to him after murdering the maid, even though she assisted him in attempting to kill Lubbock, before toying with the latter and also seeking to rule the Empire and have "fun" with it.
- In addition, he then proceeds to mock the deceased maid by stating how he killed her parents ages ago.
- To emphasise his nature, even the Jaegers (including Esdeath, one of the franchise's most vile characters) denounced his actions and turned against him, as well as his father (who is far from better than him) showing disappointment towards him for being too chaotic and deviating from his objective of taking down the Night Raid.
Trivia[]
- While both versions of Syura count as a Hate Sink, the Manga version is more hateable due to being more of a depraved rapist in addition to being the deplorable and spoiled manchild he is.
