What Makes Them Despicable	Serves as the main overseer for the Bordeaux Mines, which primarily runs on slave labor. Works the Pickers to death, and executed anyone who disobey his commands or show any signs of illness.
"Love to hate" factors	Stephen Walters gives a very energetic and entertaining performance as the character. He does genuinely seem to value Mouse, as he is upset when Mouse is killed by Sunny and Bajie.

The Engineer is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.

He is the Overseer of the Bordeaux Mines, a mining operation that exists in the Outlands which relies on buying human slaves and forcing them to become "Pickers" who harvest minerals from the mine. The Engineer proves himself to be one of the most sadistic leaders in either the Badlands or the Outlands, killing anyone that he doesn't find useful to him.

He was portrayed by Stephen Walters.

What Makes Him Hated?

• He is the Overseer of the Bordeaux Mines, where he forces human slaves to become Pickers. The Pickers are forced to meet a mining quota every day under horrible conditions, and face death if they fail.
• Pickers who show themselves to be sick or injured are executed by the Engineer's enforcers since he considers them defective and therefore worthless.
• When Sunny arrives in the Bordeaux Mines and tries to save a man who is sick and about to be executed, the Engineer has his enforcers overpower and restrain him, then taunting Sunny over the fact that whoever he used to be doesn't matter, and that if his journey has led him to the Bordeaux Mines then that is where he will die.
• Once a week he will host a "fight night" for the Pickers entertainment, where he has his champion Mouse kill Pickers who failed to meet their quota.
• After Bajie tells the Engineer that Sunny used to be a skilled Clipper in the Badlands, the Engineer proceeds to throw Sunny and Bajie into the fighting pit with Mouse, saying that if Sunny wins then he will be the new champion.
• Sunny and Bajie managed to defeat Mouse and escape from the Bordeaux Mines, at which point the Engineer puts a price on their head leading to them being chased by bounty hunters.
• Unlike most villains in the series, the Engineer ultimately gets off without any form of consequences and is still running the Bordeaux Mines by the end of the series.
