| ~ The Once-Ler after he was doubted from his invention at first. |
The Once-Ler's Family are the overarching antagonists of Illumination’s 3rd full-length animated feature film The Lorax based of Dr. Seuss' 1970 book of the same name. They are The Once-Ler’s jerkily family who came to the Truffula Forest to help him with his Thneed.
What Makes Them Hate Sinks?[]
- They are shown to be an extremely greedy, abusive and jerkish family who are abusive to The Once-ler, with The Once-ler's Mother bullying the Once-ler for his chosen path of business.
- They all mock the Once-ler after his newest invention, the “Thneed”, ends up being a failure.
- When the Once-ler succeeded with the Thneed, they did show kindness towards him, but this was really a facade to mask their true greedy nature.
- After the mother manipulates the Once-ler into cutting down the Truffla Trees, the family directly aids him in his rise to power by helping him chop down the trees in the forest. They did all this so they can become the richest people in town with their own Thneed factory.
- When the last Truffla Tree is cut down, which causes the factory to get shut down, the mother frames the Once-ler for making the factory shut down even though Uncle Ubb was the one who cut down the last tree. This means the family themselves are the ones responsible for it for their own corporate greed.
- They deliberately abandon the Once-ler, never to be seen again, since he can no longer lavish them with material wealth, showing how much of a greedy family they are to the end. This also shows that they never genuinely cared for him and only cared for the money he gains from his business.
- Due to leaving without the Once-ler's money, they have to live the less luxurious life again, which implied that this served as karma to them for their crime.
- They overall show zero remorse for the havoc they brought upon the environment, unlike the Once-ler in his elder years, who seeks to redeem himself by giving the last Truffla seed to a boy named Ted Wiggins).
- Their purpose during the entirety of their screen-time in the film is to serve as a reason for the audience to hate them and feel sorry for the Once-ler. (who is a good-natured person who was influenced into turning evil by his abusive family.)
- Overall, none of the members of the family (except for Brett and Chet) are shown to be likable or close enough to even be a loving family in any way, and exist to serve as the entire driving factor behind the Once-ler's descent into villainy.
