Tokinada Tsunayashiro is a major antagonist of the Bleach franchise, specifically being the main antagonist of the light novel series Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World. He is the head of the Tsunayashiro Clan, who desires to overthrow the Soul King and plunge the world into pure chaos.
He is also the husband of Kaname Tōsen's close friend, Kakyō, who he ended up murdering, as well as the one that pressured Jushirō Ukitake into giving Kūgo Ginjō the Substitute Shinigami badge, in order to keep surveillance on the Fullbringers and have them be assassinated. His actions are ultimately the reason why Tōsen and Ginjō betrayed the Soul Society.
He is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Bleach: Brave Souls, who also voiced, Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia, and Isshiki Ōtsutsuki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- He is a cruel, manipulative sociopath, who harbors a strong desire to make people suffer and watch the world tear itself apart, just for his twisted amusement.
- He holds no true attachment to those around him, including that are truly loyal to him, like Hikone.
- He is the reason Kaname Tōsen and Kūgo Ginjō hated the Soul Society and turned to villainy, having killed the former's best friend Kakyō; and made Ukitake believe that Ginjou rebelled against Soul Society because of the spy function of the badge, which was the idea of his family to begin with.
- He is so obnoxious it's a wonder nobody punches him.
Background[]
- Even before learning the truth about the Soul King, he was alrighty a terrible person.
- Although he was legitimately shocked by what his ancestor did, specifically, after learning what the first Tsunayashiro did to the Soul King, he declared his family was made up of "hopeless villains not even worth despising", It's stated explicitly that while he was already a awful person learning the truth behind the Soul King is what made him into a Straw Nihilist who declared that It Is Beyond Saving, Not only does not justify his actions in the slightest, It's not played for sympathy at all.
- He killed his own best friend when he tried to duel him, killing his own wife Kakyo in the process before finding her best friend Kaname Tosen and savagely beating him after revealing the truth for kicks.
- The one time he truly lost his temper stabbing Kakyo, who died actually apologizing for not being able to turn him into a better person. He only saw value in being as cruel as possible, so her compassion and pity toward him even as he killed her disgusted him.
Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World[]
- When greeted by his cheerful retainer, Hikone Ubuginu, who was eager to know what Tokinada was dreaming about. Tokinada tells them he had the pleasant dream where he witnessed the endless despair of a broken person and expressed his satisfaction that he would never get tired seeing such a sight.
- After Hikone kills the Onmitsukidō assassins that were sent to kill his family they found one survivor amongst the pile, He proceeded to torture him and reveal to him that he was the one who ordered the assassination on his family, in order to for him to garner sympathy and to eliminate any rivals, allowing him to become the new head of his family.
- When Byakuya criticized this frivolous behavior, stating he was in no position to renounce the Soul King, Tokinada brings up how little he did to prevent Rukia's execution and called his wife foolish for leaving everything in his hands.
- While it's very satisfying to see him being stabbed brutally and painfully, after realizing this he uses his final strength to laugh maniacally, happy that his karmic death did not come from Tōsen or Shunsui's vengeful hands.
- Even as he's dying, not only does he feel absolutely no remorse for his terrible actions, he spitefully mocks his enemies laughing that retribution will forever stay out of reach for the likes of Tōsen, Shunsui, Aura, Hikone, Ginjō, Hisagi, Ukitake, and even Kakyō before he collapses to death.

- Tokinada can be seen as Batman's legendary archnemesis, The Joker of the Bleach franchise. With his desire to only watch the world burn with his goal of revealing The Soul Society and Soul King to The World of The Living which would cause unfathomable chaos. However Joker is a enjoyable villain, while nothing is remotely enjoyable about Tokinada.
