Tony Zucco is a minor antagonist in the DC Animated Universe, appearing in Batman: The Animated Series as a gangster who murdered John and Mary Grayson, Robin's parents.
He was voiced by Thomas F. Wilson.
Why is He a Hate Sink?[]
- He threatens to hurt people unless they pay him protection money.
- He threatens Jack Haley, the owner of Haley's circus.
- When Haley turns him down, Zucco takes revenge by murdering acrobats John and Mary Grayson.
- In doing this, he orphans their young son, Dick, who later becomes Robin.
- The above crime is so awful that even his uncle, Arnold Stromwell, a mob boss, disowns him for it, showing that even other mob bosses have standards against such a crime.
- Possibly out of revenge, it’s implied that he teamed up with Rubert Thorne and was possibly the one who poisoned his own cousin, Joey Stromwell, with drugs just to spite his uncle for disowning him.
- He went into hiding for 10 years to avoid being brought to justice over what he did. He eventually comes back to Gotham City and starts selling drugs and running protection rackets again.
- He is indirectly responsible for the brief rift between Batman and Robin when the latter finds out that the former is and keeps him out of the investigation out of fear of him getting hurt.
- When Robin fights him, Zucco shoots at his own men while trying to kill the Boy Wonder.
- He mocks them while endangering their lives.
- He nearly provokes Robin to kill him in cold blood.
- His imprisonment was played for satisfaction.
