Tyler Wittebane is the main antagonist of All For Luz, serving as a major antagonist of the story. He is the direct descendant of Emperor Belos, being the head of the Wittebane Mega Church who wishes to eradicate all Quirk users, believing it was his mission from God to do it.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
- The minister of The Wittebane Megachurch in Gravesfield, Tyler is also the descendant of Emperor Belos himself, and throughout the story he proves to be just as bad as his ancestor.
- He's a religious fundamentalist who spreads hate speech and encourages violence against ethnic minorities and the LGBT community, who he sees as inferior to straight, white men. His own family isn't exempt from this, as Tyler kept his daughter, Julia, locked up in her room that she was not allowed to leave and burning her favorite books for being a lesbian. He later casts her out on the street after she gains superpowers and encourages other parents to do the same.
- Tyler is not accepting of people who liked to do things outside of his extreme religious beliefs, and tried to marry off his teenaged daughter to a man 20 years her senior because he was rich.
- When the "The Mass Power Awakening Event" happens, Tyler convinces himself God tasked with the "mission" to eradicate all superhumans, and conspires with Governor Maxwell and Belos to make it a reality, spreading a third wave of The Satanic Panic all just to fuel his self-importance.
- His cult-like church turns away homeless teens like Julia and refused to give them any food or clothing if they're outed as gay and/or have superpowers.
- He funded the Death Game where 33 superpowered teens, including Luz and his own daughter Julia, were kidnapped from on their way to Reality Check Summer Camp. They were separated into 3 teams and forced to battle each other to the death. Tyler himself? The tragedy ends with 27 kids being killed in a week, including his 14-year old daughter to which he has no remorse for. To add salt to the wound, he had her last name changed to Delmisso, her mother's maiden name, just before her funeral that he didn't even bother to show up at.
- After Season 1, Tyler works with Belos to murder Luz Noceda, 14-year old girl who happens to be the new All For one user. He hired half a dozen of his personal superhuman assassins to carry out the task, including Jonah Smith, a convicted murderer and rapist, and Riley Stewardson, Luz' own cousin who was pressured under threat into doing so, who he picked up after she was rendered homeless. He has also had them kill many people in past whom he didn't like, including Pastor Domenico who was progressive, good-natured loving catholic man who helps oppressed people.
- He never outgrew his obsession with controlling and manipulating people since he was a kid, and can be pathetically childish and petty. Born into the Wittebane family, he was well-off due to the multiple business ventures that his family had under their belt. Tyler never found himself going hungry nor had to face any kind of real problems in his life, as he had the best doctors, the best food, and the best living conditions, despite being a horrible person.
- Tyler plans to betray Belos and have him killed, to continuing his genocidal ways across the Demon Realm, to satisfy his bigotry and has no real loyalty to anyone other than himself. Had his hired killers succeeded in murdering Luz he would have had them all killed not long after, having no intention in paying them.
- He regularly exploits a legal loophole that churches were allowed to do ignore anti-hate speech laws whatever they wanted under the guise of free speech, getting away with his hateful preaching for so long.
- Tyler doesn't care about the lives of his followers, assassins, innocent civilians or any collateral damage that's caused. He even orders Jonah to personally murder Luz' mother, Camila, out of spite for surviving the first assassination attempt. This was after he claimed he would spare the woman's life as he saw her as innocent and wouldn't harm herself, proving himself to be a lying hypocrite.
- After Luz successfully kills all Tyler's hired killers in self-dense and her battle with Hunter ends with the annihilation of Gravesfield, killing thousands, Tyler had fled to the Boiling Isles with his pregnant wife to work with Belos showing no sadness or remorse to the tragedy that wiped his ancestral home off the map while escaping the consequences of his actions, to his wife concern.
Trivia[]
- Overall, Tyler represents nearly every negative stereotype of a Christian rolled into a single guy:
- He holds sexist views on women.
- He believes that his status as a fundamental Christian makes him superior to those who are not, to the point that he views their lives as having no worth beyond being used for his goals.
- He claims to hate sin but lives in sin by indulging in greed, wrath, like living a privileged life and arranging murders, but believes it's okay for him to do that because he's a believer in Christ, despite not practicing what he preaches.
- He has a total disdain for gays and ethnic minority groups (the two groups of people most commonly discriminated against by the church) and believes that their mere existence is enough to damn them to Hell.
