| ~ Vangelis to the ninja before having them executed. |
King Vangelis, also known as the Skull Sorcerer, is the main antagonist of Season 13: Master of the Mountain and a major antagonist in Season 15: Crystalized in the animated series, LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
He was the corrupt King of the Ivory City of Shintaro who led a mining operation by enslaving the Geckles and Munce and forcing them to mine Vengestone. He is also the father of Princess Vania, who would later stop her father from using the Munce and Geckles and help the Ninja defeat him. He is also Cole's arch-nemesis.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- Altough he seemed to have noble intentions in the flashback as he sent the Upply after the Skull of Hazza D’ur and bring it to him in order to be destroyed, as soon as he got it, he betrayed them by throwing them into the Pit, and started using the Skull of Hazza D’ur for his own benefit.
- He stole the Blades of Deliverance from the Geckles and the Munce to start a conflict between the two, making it easier to enslave them.
- He is a typical greedy and delusional tyrant who commits horrible crimes like enslaving Geckles and Munce for decades, threatening to kill them, having people he doesn't like thrown into a pit and knowfully selling Vengestone to an omnicidal maniac. He claims it is for the greater good of the Kingdom but is an utter hypocrite who comes off as someone who sounds like he is lying to himself and absolutely refuses to believe he could ever be wrong.
- In fact, he’s the only villain in the series who has enslaved more than one race.
- He put Cole and the rest of the Ninja to work to mine Vengestone.
- After he reveals to Cole, Wu and Vania that he is the Skull Sorcerer he banishes both Cole and Wu into the Pit, falling to their death. When Vania opposes him to go save the Ninja he threatens to disown her only for Vania to disobey him, after that he disowns her yelling that she made her choice, showing that he does not love his daughter despite his earlier claims.
- After this he lies to the guards that the whole incident was Chompy's fault ( Vania's pet ), resulting in him getting locked up.
- He has no honor as when the Ninja made a deal with him that he can enslave them but let the Geckles and Munce free from the mines he enslaved the Ninja but also the Geckles and Munce.
- Even in-universe, he is acknowledged by Cole as a typical bad guy, giving him a generic villains speech to make him less intimidating.
- He tried to kill the Ninja with Grief-Bringer in front of the Geckles and Munce in order to break their spirits and remain his slaves for the rest of their lives.
- He fought Cole and sadistically taunted him about Lilly (his mother) lying to the Geckles and Munce that the swords have power (in reality they are just regular swords, his mother lied in order to uplift their spirits) and said that he is not even half the warrior Lilly was and tried to kill him.
- After he is defeated he cowardly begs for mercy from his own daughter who previously disowned her, lying that everything he did was for the "kingdom's benefit" when in reality it was only for himself.
- He sold the mined Vengestone on the black market out of his own greed, specifiically to Harumi, who used the vengestone she bought from him to build the Crystal King's army, making him indirectly responsible for the Crystal King's invasion of Ninjago, with the army in question being used to corrupt many innocent people and the powers of Creation.
- He joined the Crystal King's Council, to get revenge on the Ninja for being defeated and help The Overlord with his plans.
- He mocked Harumi, calling her a servant even though without her he would still be in jail.
- He attacked the monastery alongside Pythor, Aspheera, and the Mechanic to steal the weapons of Spinjitzu. Wu, Nya, Skylor, and P.I.X.A.L. are almost killed as a result, succeding in stealing the weapons.
- He has absolutely no loyalty to The Overlord and even trying to kill Cole as revenge for turning his people and Vania against him, even though it was ultimately his own fault for enslaving the Munce and Geckles, something that Cole even calls him out on.
- Both of his defeats are played for satisfaction and were well deserved for everything he has done.
