King Vangelis, also known as the Skull Sorcerer, is the main antagonist of Season 13: Master of the Mountain and a major antagonist in Season 15: Crystalized in the animated series, LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
He was the corrupt King of the Ivory City of Shintaro who led a mining operation by enslaving the Geckles and Munce and forcing them to mine Vengestone. He is also the father of Princess Vania, who would later stop her father from using the Munce and Geckles and help the Ninja defeat him. He is also Cole's arch-nemesis.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- Altough he seemed to have noble intentions in the flashback as he sent the Upply after the Skull of Hazza D’ur and bring it to him in order to be destroyed, as soon as he got it, he betrayed them by throwing them into the Pit, and started using the Skull of Hazza D’ur for his own benefit.
- He is a typical greedy and delusional tyrant who commits horrible crimes like enslaving Geckles and Munce, threatening to kill them, having people he doesn't like thrown into a pit and knowfully selling Vengestone to an omnicidal maniac. He claims it is for the greater good of the Kingdom but is an utter hypocrite who comes off as someone who sounds like he is lying to himself and absolutely refuses to believe he could ever be wrong.
- He is willing to disown his daughter Vania when she disagrees with his plan.
- He stole the Blades of Deliverance from the Geckles and the Munce to start a conflict between the two, making it easier to enslave them.
- He forced the Geckles and Munce to mine Vengestone, horribly punishing those who stopped. In fact, he’s the only villain in the series who has enslaved more than one race.
- Even in-universe, he is acknowledged by Cole as a typical bad guy, giving a generic villains speech to make him less intimidating.
- He sold the mined Vengestone on the black market, most prominently to Harumi, who used the vengestone she bought from him to build the Crystal Kings army. This makes him indirectly responsible for the Crystal King's invasion of Ninjago, with the army in question being used to corrupt many innocent people.
- He put Cole and the rest of the Ninja to work to mine Vengestone.
- It's heavily implied that he murdered many innocent people to keep his operation a secret, including his own guards, by tossing them down the same pit as the Upply to be eaten by the giant spiders within. This is backed up by the number of skeletons in the spiders' webs, with at least six visible.
- After being surrounded by Vangelis and his army, the Ninja agreed that they would surrender themselves to him if let the Munce and the Geckles go free. After the ninja surrendered, he imprisons them and plans to enslave them again anyway.
- He joins the Crystal King's Council, a powerful group of destructive terrorists, to get revenge on the ninjas.
- He attacked the monastery alongside Pythor, Aspheera, and the Mechanic to steal the weapons of Spinjitzu. Wu, Nya, Skylor, and P.I.X.A.L. are almost killed as a result.
- He has absolutely no loyalty to the Overlord and even trying to kill Cole as revenge for turning his people and Vania against him, even though it was ultimately his own fault for enslaving the Munce and Geckles, something that Cole even calls him out on.
- While he claims to love his daughter, this love is shallow, as he disowns her for siding with the Ninja and attempts to beg her for undeserved mercy after his defeat.
- Even before his true colors were revealed, he was far from being a kind father, being incredibly controlling and mentally abusive to her to the point that she feared disobeying him. Not to mention that it is implied he tricked her as a child into believing that a Munce she had seen was her imagination.
