| ~ Vertebreak reveals his true identity to all four Alicorn Princesses. |
Vertebreak is a minor antagonist in the sixth and seventh seasons of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Reaperverse.
He was the Leader of the Changeling Air Force, and after the defeat of Queen Chrysalis, he tried to kill the Guardians of Harmony and the Alicorn Princesses but was stopped by Flurry Heart.
What Makes Him a Hate Sink?[]
In General[]
- Unlike other Changelings, who either suffer from self-doubt and lack of confidence in their race's actions (like Thorax and Harvester), or have genuine tragedy (like General Chryzalis) or positive qualities towards others (like Queen Chrysalis towards General Chryzalis), none of this makes Vertebreak appear in a different light, being portrayed as unsympathetic from start to finish of his entire run.
- While many Changelings (even General Chrysalis and Queen Chrysalis) are often portrayed in a comedic manner, Vertebreak's character and personality are always portrayed seriously, causing any character to lose all comedic moments in his presence.
- While it is true that unlike other Changelings, he does not need to feed on love, but on the flesh of Equestrians in order to survive, as practice shows, Whirligig kills or devours various inhabitants of Equestria out of pure sadism, and not simply for food.
Season 6[]
- Eats an innocent Crystal Empire citizen alive, much to the disgust of Harvester and General Chryzalis.
- It is worth noting that while he has mentioned that he does this to gain Queen Chrysalis's praise, and that it may make him insecure, it is in fact nothing more than a subtle strategy to convince Queen Chrysalis that consuming flesh is a much more effective method of nourishment for Changelings than feeding on love.
- While this may make him somewhat of a well-intentioned extremist who seeks the survival of his race, it is in fact his sadistic desire to corrupt his own kind without any sense of caring for any of them that makes him even worse.
Season 7[]
- Kidnapped Flurry Heart to use her as a hostage to lure Celestia, Luna, Cadance, and the Guardians of Harmony into signing a treaty to hand over Equestria to the Changelings, only to trick them into killing them all, planning to appropriate their magic to become even stronger and begin his campaign of mass-eating the entire population of Equestria for himself, making him the first Changeling in My Little Pony fanworks to directly seek to commit genocide against all Equestrians (something even Queen Chrysalis would be unlikely to do).
- When the Guardians of Harmony and the Alicorn Princesses arrive at the rendezvous point and confront Vertebreak, he asks Twilight Sparkle if she would like to see a "visual scenario" of him making Flurry Heart bleed to death, after saying that he could easily have Twilight see her entire family die in agony. He even slightly cut Flurry Heart's face simply because he was sadistically thinking about how he could end everyone Twilight holds dear. All of this makes Vertebrake almost the most personal enemy of Twilight Sparkle, directly threatening to kill her entire family, as well as almost the most personal enemy of Cadance, as he threatened Flurry Heart's life with more force than King Sombra and Shadow Freddy. All of this also makes him the only Changeling who has no problem hurting or killing babies.
- What's even more notable is that he is the very first villain in the My Little Pony Reaperverse, earning Twilight Sparkle's wrathful anger and raw hatred for his extreme level of sadism and selfishness, as well as for nearly causing the deaths of Flurry Heart, Princess Cadance, and Twilight herself.
- When Celestia and Twilight suggested that he had done all this to gain praise from Queen Chrysalis, Vertebreak simply responded that he was no longer interested in serving those who essentially created him, wanting to kill Queen Chrysalis and General Chrysalis immediately after he gained more power using the magic of the slain Friendship Guardians and Alicorn Princesses, thus finally proving that his own kind meant nothing to him, and also making him the only Vertebreak in My Little Pony fanworks who was willing to commit genocide against his own kind if necessary.
- He attacked Twilight with a psychic beam, temporarily putting her in a nightmarish delusion, forcing her to witness the deaths of everyone she cared about in the most brutal ways possible, only to try to drive Twilight into deep despair and successfully kill her.
- Noticing Cadance's hesitation to kill him, he convinced her to consider his fate as a merciful ruler, only for him to dishonorably stab her with his claw, mocking her for being as naive and "easy to kill" as her daughter Flurry Heart.
- He ate Twilight Sparkle alive and would have nearly dissolved her in his stomach acid if Flurry Heart hadn't saved her in time by slicing Vertebreak's stomach open with Lincoln's sword. This makes Vertebreak one of the few villains in the entire My Little Pony Reaperverse who has come close to killing Princess Twilight for sure.
