Vincent the bear is the main antagonist of the 2006 animated comedy film, Over the Hedge. He starts the main inciting incident of the movie, and continues to be a looming threat throughout. he is played by Nick Nolte.
What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- While RJ did steal his mountain of food from him, he decides to force him to bring it all back in only a week, it's implied Vincent did this more out of sadism than true desperation.
- Unlike the other villains in the movie, he is rarely played for laughs (outside of his comical defeat).
- It's implied he's done this to other animas before, as evident by the bones/skeletons seen in his cave.
- When RJ realizes how important his "family" is, Vincent thinks it's ridiculous that he'd have emotions for people besides himself.
- He tires to kill RJ, as well as his friends (who weren't involved in stealing his food) for the crime of RJ caring about them.
- He's incredibly petty, as he tells RJ to make sure to get a blue cooler, and that it HAS to be blue and not another colour.
- His gluttony is played up, as he has stolen a ton of food from others (possibly through violent force considering his character), and unlike the other animals in the movie, this isn't portrayed with sympathy/understanding.
- He is overjoyed that RJ almost leaves his new family to the exterminator, as he thinks it's "classic" that someone would build up trust, only to leave them for dead.
Triva[]
- Only the movie version of him is considered a hate sink, in the video game (which takes place some time after the movie) tie in, he returns and makes a heal-face turn, however this video game isn't considered cannon to the movie.
- Although intended to be hated, he is actually well liked amongst some fans, due to his faux affably evil personality and how he's the most threatening/menacing villain of the three.
