William Afton, also known as The Yellow Rabbit is the main antagonist of the novelization of the 2023 supernatural horror film, Five Nights At Freddy's, based on the popular video game franchise by Scott Cawthon.
He is a sadistic serial killer and a former associate of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, who killed several children in the 80s while dressed up as a yellow rabbit suit. He later becomes a career counselor who hooks Mike up with a job at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear's location.
What Makes Him Despicable?[]
- While almost all canon versions of Afton has some evil is cool factors or is laughably evil with their villainy, the novelization version of him lacks any of those factors and is shown to be a smug, petty and despicable serial killer.
- He murdered several children in the 80s while suited up as a Yellow Rabbit, one of them being Mike's younger brother Garret, his first victim, and it's heavily implied by Vanessa that Afton has killed many more kids in his lifetime.
- Is extremely abusive and demeaning to Vanessa, to the point that Vanessa is emotionally unstable and outright fearful of her father when confronted by him.
- While disguised as Steve Raglan, Afton shows to be a smug slimeball who mocks and is dismissive of Mike's situation, with Mike being incredibly annoyed to the point of wanting to punch Afton or just leave as soon as possible.
- When Mike rescues Abby from the animatronics with the help of Vanessa, Afton appears and begins beating Mike nearly to death, coldly trying to kill him before focusing on manipulating the animatronics into killing Abby.
- Unlike in the movie, where Afton accidentally stabs Vanessa and briefly shows remorse (though he gets over it quickly) this version of Afton stabs Vanessa only because she back talked him, and then proceeds to throw her body across the room to chase Abby.
- When the animatronics turn on Afton, he proceeds to hurl insults and demean them on being abominations and freaks, with even Abby showing complete disgust and hatred for him.
- Unlike the official movie version, this version shows no hammy moments nor his infamous "I always come back!" line, being simply a smug, abusive, sadistic, and petty serial killer who is treated with contempt by every single person in the book, including the completely innocent Abby.
Trivia[]
- His movie version, played by Matthew Lillard, is not a Hate Sink as he shows to have extremely laughable and bombastic moments, including his infamous "I always come back!" line, which the book lacks, and his extreme mannerisms while fighting Mike. These qualities make that version more Entertainingly Detestable.
- However, his movie version is no better than the novelization version as his actions are still reprehensible, and his movie version is obviously Pure Evil.
