"Love to hate" factors	He has a intimidating and terrifying presence. He is a competent fighter who gives Guts a tough battle. His nonchalant attitude can come across as laughably evil at times.

Wyald is a major antagonist of The Golden Age Arc of Berserk. He was an Apostle who was the leader of the infamous Black Dog Knights and was hired by the King of Midland to kill Griffith and the Band of the Hawk.

He is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in the pachinko adaptation Berserk - Kaishingeki! Dotō no Yōhei-dan and by Kunihiro Kawamoto in Berserk Musou.

What Makes Him a Hate Sink?

• He is a depraved and psychopathic sadist who relishes in the rape and murder of innocent men, women and children. A notorious example of this is when he raped a young farm maiden before proceeding to murder her family and the residents of her town, putting their corpses on his sword. He also has his men commit these barbaric crimes.
• He mistreats his men absolutely terribly, even killing some of them just for the fun of it. His treatment of them is so bad, that even after seeing their comrades being easily killed by Guts, they continue fighting. As Guts observed, all of them were being driven by terror, demonstrating how they'd rather die at the hands of him than be punished by Wyald.
• He has zero empathy or concern for anyone but himself.
• He attempts to rape Casca to death.
• He disobeyed the Godhand's orders and got a well-deserved punishment from Nosferatu Zodd. It was extremely satisfying to see him beg for his life as a coward.
• Although it's implied that he suffered from poor health and he became an Apostle to avoid it, none of this is used to make him sympathetic at all whatsoever.
• Overall, he was designed to be as despicable and heinous as possible with his death at the hands of Nosferatu Zodd himself being rather cathartic.
