Yakone is a major antagonist in the animated TV series The Legend of Korra, being the posthumous overarching antagonist of Book One: Air. He used to be one of Republic City's top crime lords who would terrorize its citizens through means of bloodbending before getting his abilities taken away from him by Aang and sent to prison. After breaking out with help from his gang, however, he undergoes plastic surgery and takes on a new identity, going into a new village afterwards where he would start a family with a women there and have 2 children. Later on, as they grew, once they are revealed to have waterbending abilities, Yakone starts inflicting harsh training on them through means of verbal abuse to perfect their abilities before eventually revealing who he really is and what he claims their purpose to be, showing himself to be an abusive father in the process.
He was voiced by Clancy Brown, who also voiced Long Feng in Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Smile Away Reformatory School Sergeant in Phineas and Ferb.
What Makes Him Despicable?[]
- When Noatak and Tarrlok discover waterbending abilities, Yakone inflicts harsh verbal abuse on them while training them, mostly on Tarrlok, as shown when he yelled at him at one point for messing up and threatened to leave him out in the cold all night if he doesn't shape up. When Noatak defends him by telling his father that he will get it and just needs time, Yakone reprimands him for "talking back" to him. Yakone also denounced Tarrlok's waterbending as "Sloppy"
- After taking Noatak and Tarrlok on a fake hunting trip away from home, he reveals who he used to be as the top crime lord in Republic City and a bloodbender before Aang took his ability away and tells them that they can bloodbend too and of his intent to train them to master the art of it to make them bloodbenders of the highest order and use them to claim Republic City and destroy Aang when the time is right to avenge him, coldly telling them that that is their only purpose in life.
- While training them, he inflicts harsh verbal abuse on them while forcing them to bloodbend animals like a yak they come across (though only Noatak does this) and several wolves. When Tarrlok objects against the former as Noatak bloodbends it, Yakone tells him to toughen up before commending Noatak for going through with the act, also showing some sadism in the latter act.
- He attempts to force the two brothers to bloodbend each other and after Noatak does it, when Tarrlok refuses to do it, Yakone begins insulting him by calling him a disgrace and a weakling while reprimanding him before Noatak steps in and begins bloodbending him, calling him the real weak one and for using his sons as tools of revenge before running away into a snowstorm.
- He would overall be responsible for why Noatak would turn into the Equalist leader Amon, with all the verbal abuse and harsh training he inflicted on him winding up shaping him into a cold and distant person to the extent of hating the act of bending itself and wanting to get rid of it.
