What Makes Him A Hate Sink?[]
- While it is implied that Yul has had a bad past as during the trivia challenge would reveal that Yul and his family were North Korean refugees, not only is this not played for sympathy, this does not make him tragic due to his horrible behavior nor his actions.
- Yul is shown to be rude and cruel to everyone he meets. He is highly arrogant, viewing himself higher than everyone else for no reason. Because of his harsh persona towards everyone, he ended up having no allies before merge to the point that no one missed him when he got eliminated.
- In the first episode, Yul is shown to bully Maggy for her appearance, calling her an ogre. He complains that the Orange Team will win all the strength challenges because of Maggy. And after when he joined Orange Team and won the tie breaker against Maggy, he tells her to go back to the circus in which all means that he easily judges someone for their appearance.
- One time before the show, he got canceled for "accidentally" pushing a grandma down the escalator in a crowded mall. However, he has no remorse for this action and is in fact proud of what he did. He refuses to tone down his behaviors because he states that no one from Korea is watching.
- As one of his secrets in "Truth Hurts", it is revealed that he forced his ex girlfriend to get plastic surgery. The main reason he decided to break up with her was because he claimed that she "did it wrong".
- In the same episode, he made fun of Lake by calling her a virgin and laughed at her baldness, calling her "Baldy". Later, after Lake defended Maggy against his insults, he told her to stop stressing out before she would lose the hair on her eyebrows as well, angering Maggy enough to satisfyingly punch him in the face.
- He tried to convince James to poison Aiden in order to make it further to the game and to prevent another tiebreaker. This results in Yul getting his comeuppance for all of his actions when James poisoned him instead and got him medically evacuated, though to add insult to injury he would've been eliminated in a 3-1 vote anyway.
- He comes back in Disventure Camp: All Stars and is in a relationship with Grett. At first glance he is shown to at least treat Grett decently, but it's later revealed that he shows no affection towards her and only got in a relationship with her because his manager advised him to since his popularity was declining.
- About his relationship with Grett, it is shown that he is a very abusive boyfriend towards Grett as he constantly criticizes her for her weight, bosses her around and finds her to be clingy. In Strike a Chord, he ends up manipulating Grett's feelings by Emily putting an earphone in his ear and forcing him to "apologize" to Grett of what he said by prompting him with words to say. He only accepts because he doesn't actually love her, but in fact that his public reputation is dropping.
- Yul is also shown to be racist as well as he thinks that manual labor would be handled better by "those people" and then later asking where Rosa is, and when she was revealed to have shoplifted in the past he claims that he isn't surprised that a "Latina" would steal.
- He is also shown to be homophobic as well as he's disgusted in the fact the some of the contestants are gay, saying that he doesn't want to be in that "disgusting crowd". He shortly after gets a call from his manager which caused him to say it in a more positive way and calls it the "LGBTQ+" community the "LGBTIKZ" community.
- After Hunter crashed into a tree during the challenge in “The Turbulent Triathlon”, Yul taunts him, even Hunter referring that he’s the “same old guy.” After Grett asked if he was too harsh on Hunter since he already lost his bike, he says that’s the point and kick them while they’re down so they could win. When Grett told Yul to be more careful since they could possibly work together and her last experiences in season 1 of where she was manipulative didn’t work well for her last time, he tells her to stop telling him what to do and tells her to pedal faster to get rid of her “Thunder Thighs”, knowing that’s a soar spot for her.
- In “Last Second Chance”, when James calmly tells him that he doesn’t have to be rude around him, saying it’s a character, Yul angrily exclaims that being nice to people is the character and how miserable it is, even going far in comparing it to prostitution. When James asked Yul how it was so difficult to act like a normal person, he angrily states that it should be normal to call out fat people, never learning from his lesson.
- When the contestants were asked which superpower they'd want to have before the show, which would later determine the powers they'd get during the VR challenge, Yul said that he wanted electrokinesis so he could tase kids, meaning he would hurt a child.
- In "Dis-vengers", he told Gabby to stay away from Grett due to influencing the latter to stand up to his abuse. When Gabby refused, Yul started to torture her by repeatedly zapping her with his electricity. This caused Grett to intervene, but he told her to focus on the monster while calling her a "b-tch" before continuing to zap Gabby. Refusing to tolerate him anymore, Grett blasted him with water to save Gabby and dumped him, leaving him to be eaten by Ned and making him lose the challenge.
- After the VR challenge ended, he told Grett that she'd give her one more chance if she left Gabby and she'd regret it if she didn't. Grett refused his chance, claiming that she already regrets meeting him. He then tried to make a false apology to garner her sympathy, which doesn't convince her one bit.
- After he got eliminated a second time, he insulted the remaining contestants and threatened to call his lawyers on Grett before flipping off both her and the camera when he arrived on the bus of losers. This shows that Yul is a sore loser.
- In "No Vacancy", he insulted how Grett grilled the burgers and told her that grilling was a man's job before snatching the spatula out of her hand. However, Grett trips him and causes him to fall onto the grill, getting a burn on his face. When James told him to apologize to Grett, Yul refused at first due to her burning his face and asked James if he was on drugs.
- Even when Yul considered James' words and genuinely decided to apologize, he would sulk believing the idea to be stupid after Grett rightfully ignored him. However, once he finds the third totem, he goes back to his old egotistical self and calls Grett a "Gastric Bypass" before celebrating his victory. This also shows that Yule is a sore winner as well.
- With most of the other villains having redeeming qualities, sympathy (even if it is some), or kinder sides, Yul has no freudian excuse or any act of kindness for any of his actions. He has no redeeming/sympathetic qualities to him and remains to be rude, cruel and arrogant to anyone he interacts with and doesn't seem to feel any remorse nor wants to make up for his actions. And even if he does have some comedic moments, his actions, attitude towards others and abuse towards Grett is taken way too seriously.
