Zaboera is a major antagonist of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. He is a Mystic Legion Commander of the Dark Army who used dirty tricks and relied on his allies to get whatever he wants, including becoming the supreme commander of the Dark Army.
In Japanese version, he is voiced by Naoki Tatsuta in the 1991 anime and Mitsuo Iwata in the 2020 anime. In English version, he is voiced by Lee Tockar.
What makes him Hate Sink?[]
- Kidnapped Brass and brainwashed him to make him fight against Dai.
- He has no problems using dirty tricks to do whatever he wants, especially relying on others including his fellow Dark Army to do the dirty work for him, such as:
- He takes advantage of Crocodine's pride and insecurity by convincing him to summon Brass against Dai, which made him nearly dropping away his honor to ensure his victory.
- He attempt to gave Hyunckel an advice of how to kill Dai by casting a spell to make Maam fell in love with him to take advantage of him.
- When Popp went out for night patrol just in case if the Dark Army is coming for Dai and his friends, he disguised himself as Maam in order to take advantage of his feelings for her just to paralyzed him with Dark Incense and puts everyone in a deep slumber so he and Hadlar could slaughter them all.
- Has Heyedra constricted Maam to prevent her from healing Dai so Crocodine would kill him if it weren't for Popp.
- Callously smirks and snickers at Hyunckel's supposed death at the hands of Flazzard.
- He and Myst-Vearn went to sabotage Dai, Gome and Hyunckel's chance of destroying the Dark Flame Spire by attacking them. While taunting Dai when Myst-Vearn trapped him in his Dark Puppetry Hand Aura, he tortured Baduck into listening his words of death to make him fall asleep by casting a Thwack spell on him.
- Order his minions to attack Crocodine when he helps Dai, Gome and Baduck to fight against him and Myst-Vearn and destroy the Dark Flame Spire.
- Casts a Morph spell on one of his minions to make Crocodine looks like he killed him so he could save his own skin.
- While backing up Hadlar, he attempt to incinerate a Grand Sorcerer Matoriv to death. Since Matoriv had gotten older than he used to, he could've died if it weren't for Dai to save him from nearly dying.
- After he failed to slaughter Dai and his friends, he cowarldy attempt to run away from Hadlar to side with Myst-Vearn before he was demanded into make the Dark Lord a new body stronger as the Dragon Knight.
- For his own experiments to create Superior Beings, he sent his own son Zamza to capture eight powerful fighters like Maam and kill Dai and his friends in order to collect the battle data for that. He also showed no sadness or concern over his son's death as long as he got what he wanted to transform Hadlar into a Superior Being.
- He treats others around him like tools for his own plans, including his own son Zamza whom he mocked for this. These cruel words of his caused Zamza to became self-conscious so much that he decided to proved himself not to be underestimated and became seriously offended when Maam called him a trash.
- Didn't show concern of his son's death and gleefully laughs over this as long as he got what he wanted to transform Hadlar into a Superior Being.
- In order to gain Vearn's respect, he and the Mystic Legion went to search for Dai and kill him. He attempt to incinerate him and his friends to death by firing a powerful Kafrizz spell via Hexcitation until he was stopped by Hym under Hadlar's orders.
- This even shows that he wasn't genuinely loyal to his master which proves that he only wanted to gain his attention to usurp Hadlar's position as his second-in-command.
- As revenge for getting him imprisoned, he restrained Hadlar in order to allow Vearn to finish him off with the Staff of Edacity.
- Admitted to Myst-Vearn that he's aware of the Black Core implanted inside Hadlar and hoping he'll die for Vearn as long as he survived in explosion, causing Myst angrily threaten him not to talk back about him and he already knew how selfish and ambitious he is.
- Summoned the monsters from the Underworld to kill Dai and his allies once and for all.
- Seeing that Popp is the only one whose insignia hasn't glow yet, he believed it was his chance to ruin Dai and his friends' effort to cast Kaglimmer on Vearn Palace and attempt to threw a Venom Chain at him in order to get himself a glory, but later became disappointed when Merle took the hit instead of him, causing her to almost died from getting injured.
- Tried to abandon Myst-Vearn when they're losing advantages, but only for him to be left out after Myst warned pointed out he'll be executed if he dare to return to Vearn Palace.
- Instead of just giving up, he cowardly and desperately killed a bunch of defeated and injured minions to create his own Hyperzombie Demon to kill all of the heroes, much to their horror and disgust as result.
- This even led to Lon Beruk risked himself getting both his arms broken after the Star Emperor Swords being destroyed from unleashing Star Emperor Cross Slash at him, which is way too powerful for him to use.
- Attempts to run away from the heroes after he was defeated, but only to be cornered by Crocodine. By pathetically begging for mercy, he tried to poisoned Crocodine to brainwashed him into his side but only to realize that Crocodine tricked him into getting stuck under his Vortex Axe by pretending to be fooled until his well-deserved demise.
- Overall, Zaboera is nothing but a selfish coward who only relied on others (including his own son) for his own benefits and survival.
