Zesty Gourmand is a minor antagonist in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic who appeared in the Season 6 episode "Spice Up Your Life" as the main antagonist. She is a famous restaurant critic in Canterlot who used her position to force every restaurant owners to meet her standard.
She was voiced by Fiona Hogan.
What makes her a Hate Sink?[]
- She uses her position as a high-ranking food critic to pressure most of the restaurateurs to meet her standard and threatens to discredit their restaurant if they don't. Even though Rarity idolizes her and her standards at first, Zesty's actions lead her to believe it to be not worth it.
- When The Tasty Treat restaurant is re-opened in an attempt to cater to Zesty's three-hoof standard, she insults the decor that Rarity and coriander worked so hard on, calling Rarity, who is generally considered to be a very skilled fashion designer, only adequate at fashion, and telling Rarity to take advice from a friend, explaining her philosophy and saying a harsh speech to others as well, calling two customers inside the Tasty Treat restaurant "uncultured" for no good reason. This last bit shows she's an unpleasant pony in general, insulting strangers for no good reason.
- She is also a hypocrite, telling her supposed "friend" Rarity to keep her opinions out of cuisine since she's a fashion designer and not a food critic. Thing is, this "advice" comes in the same breath that she uses to call Rarity "adequate" at fashion, despite Zesty herself being a food critic and not a fashion designer. So, it's okay for her to judge fashion despite not being a fashion designer herself, but Rarity can't judge food since she's not a food critic?
- Shocked to see that The Tasty Treat restaurant becomes successful, Zesty talks back at others for ignoring her judgements, which causes Rarity and the others to stand up to her by stating that they should decide to cook the way they do instead of following her standards.
- Though it's not shown yet, it's implied that she's insecure to the fact of being nervous of Rarity stating that refusing to try the food from The Tasty Treat restaurant could affect her reputation. But she rebuffs this and storms out of the place, possibly out of maintaining her own reputation.
- She gets no real comeuppance for insulting the two customers inside the Tasty Treat or telling Rarity to keep her opinions out of food service, making her a karma houdini.
