~ Zhao to Zuko. |
Zhao, known as Commander Zhao and later Admiral Zhao, is one of two secondary antagonists (alongside Azula) of the 2024 Netflix live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender, based on the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name.
He is a power hungry and ruthless Fire Nation navy officer who is bent of capturing Avatar Aang in the name of Fire Lord Ozai and would do anything to beat the disgraced Fire Nation Prince Zuko in doing so. Though he initially presents himself as an ally for Zuko and General Iroh, Zhao starts taking over the operation in his quest to rise up through the ranks.
He was portrayed by Ken Leung.
What Makes him a Hate Sink?[]
- He notifies Ozai through a letter about the avatar's return despite having promised Zuko and Iroh that he would not tell anyone.
- When he became admiral, he took control of Zuko's crew while mocking him and rubbing it in his face.
- Upon capturing Aang, he attempts to keep him in torturous conditions while cruelly taunting him.
- In his infamous act of MEH, he murders the Moon Spirit Tui despite being warned that doing so would bring imbalance to the world, causing a great deal of death and destruction to the Northern Water Tribe and causing Princess Yue to sacrifice her life to resurrect Tui.
- Upon being defeated by Zuko, he cruelly mocks him, revealing that Ozai does not plan to bring him back and that his mission only served to make Azula a better heir. He then attempts to attack Zuko from behind with a fire whip, only for Iroh to intervene to stop him, receiving a karmic and well-deserved death.
- In general, he retains the same detestable traits of his original counterpart, being just as despicable as him.
